Hi - Still research CAPS, and things that can be done to reduce the risk of CAPS related Fuel Delivery failures. If I understood a post I read correctly on another board, sometimes the Lift Pump will fail, due to fuel starvation (Pump keeps running, but not enough fuel flow so it stops lubrication which can cause failure. As the fuel is not delivered evenly from the Lift Pump, then the Injection Pump part of the CAPS also may be impacted. (Note: This is a question, as much as it is an attempted summary. As I sure could have miss understood what was being explained on the other boards:)!))
So, my question, have any of you added an extra fuel pump, in front of the Lift Pump, to aid/provide more positive fuel flow? The AirDog is one such pump.
Thanks,
Smitty

Smitty, When the engine starts the "Lift Pump" shuts off within 30 seconds to 1 minute.

Mike - Thank you for your polite response:)!
I went back to track down how I had got so far off the beaten path, and found that the thead I had been reading about ISC's CAPS, had shifted in mid stream over to the older ISB's.
I also found a thread on a Heavy Diesel Mechanics Board, that claimed the last generation of CAPS had many fixes and refinements from the earlier models. Yes, many more moving pieces then the next generation Common Rail, but it was good to read their opinion that the last cycle of CAPS were improved. As my engine was made in July of 2003, I assume it was in this later generation. Suppose a call to Cummnis with the engine serial would confirm this.
Thanks again for the response and setting me straight. I'm sure not looking for problems, but if their are small changes or aftermarket items that I can do to aid the health of the CAPS - I don't mind doing this...

The only issue I have had with my ISL was at 54,000 miles. The accumulator section of the injection
pump ceramic pistons were defective allowing diesel to enter the lubricating oil, dropping my oil
pressure. It was an easy fix once the part was delivered to the Farmington, NM Cummins shop. I never had any starting or power issues, but my engine brake wasn't very effective in the mountains of
Colorado, which became a real issue.
