I have a 2000 Allure with a Cummins 8.3 ISC. Had the temp gave rise quickly from 181 to appox 210. Warning light came on and before I could change lanes Nd exit temp returned to 181. This happened 3 times in about 1.5 hours which then stopped for the rest of our trip. No issues first 5 hours and no issues for last 1.5 hours. Water level is fine. Highway was flat, outside air was around 80 or less. Fan controller?, thermostat? Thanks for any insight you can provide!

One vote for thermostat. It's also a lot cheaper to replace then the fan control.

Just happened to me. Replaced the thermostat and it runs like a charm.

I had a similar issue. The temp would jump around from 175 to 195+. Then in an instant drop back down again.
I had Cummins replace the thermostat. No change. Everyone then said fan controller. (The fan speed never seemed to change). Before I went that route I had the radiator flushed. Since then I have had no temp issues.
Just a thought.
