Hi,

Owing to poor aluminum preparation the paint along the bottom of my slide trim is lifting off, cracking, peeling and blistering. In some spots you could slide a quarter into the pocket between paint and trim. I'm planning on stripping the paint, using Alumiprep 33 Aluminum Cleaner followed by Alodine 1201 Chromate Conversion Coating to properly prepare the aluminum and prevent oxide creep. This will provide a good stable surface for adhesion of the top coat. My next challenge is to unravel the paint codes and "custom" fleet formulations so I can get the paint I need. I have three options:
1) Ask for information here.
2) Try to contact CCC and/or Oregon Motor Coach.
3) Take bay door off and have it scanned.

Thought I'd try here first. Below is the dope on the paint that is on the underside of the manual box lid.

All painted colors have 10% autocryl harderner 1-2-3 by weight.

Grey Brown Metallic - 316B2
Brown Metallic - 315H4

Black Gold Metallic SAT95:73

Sealer: Colorbuild 2.1-2.8
Clear: Autoclear HS + LV

I don't know if these numbers are "house" codes that have translations held only by CC. The paint supply house can't locate anything on them. I'm hoping for a DuPont (or other major paint company) code/formulation. Can anyone here shed some light on this? Or possibly provide a knowledgeable contact. Many thanks in advance for any information that comes forward. Per usual I'll chronicle this repair for others wishing to solve this problem.

Best - Scott

The paint codes you have listed are actually page numbers in a CC paint book I had to get my Sikens codes from the Sikens rep Bob 06 intrigue 12047

Scott,

I have just had my problems with paint sorted here in the UK! The paints for me and I think all CC's are Sikkens and they knew the codes straight off and my paintshop could also work with solvent paints as per original CC as over here in the UK classic cars and caravans are allowed in solvent piants. They did a stunning match on my bronze and black!

Mike - Thanks. So I've got the OEM paint supplier now. That being Sikkens. What I need is the toner/tint instructions to provide my paint supplier so he can mix the colors. Would your contact in the UK be willing to provide this information? I'm doing the painting myself which might sour a body shop towards disseminating this information.

Scott,

My paintshop is a Sikkens approved shop, they just key in the codes and thats it I believe. I would suggest you start with Sikkens US and source a supplier from them. Other non Sikkens shops tried to scan the paints on the coach but were getting only 90% matches and I wanted the job done exactly so I went to the shop with the right paint and a booth big enough to handle the coach. Sorry I cannot be much more help.

Regards

Mike - Thanks for the information. I'm putting the scan options at the end of the list failing all other possibilities. All I need is for someone to mix me the proper colors in 8-16 oz quantities. I need very little paint to complete these repairs. Remaining within the same paint system would make that an easier task I would think. We'll see how this develops.
