Could be a bad connection either on the gauge or sending unit or a bad sending unit in the tank.

We had the same type of thing happened to us. Called Country Coach. They told me to interrupt the circuit from the fuel tank sensor/sender and the auto genstart unit. I disconnected one of the wires that was connected to the fuel gauge. I believe that I disconnected the hot wire that went into the gauge. The the fuel gauge remained at empty, but I could run the gen unit. I believe that fuel sender is bad on my coach, I just have not had time to get into it.
