We stayed at Savannah Oaks but it isn't a fancy park. Lots of trees and sandy. It was "ok" for what we wanted. Not a destination park.
or you can stay at Hilton Head Island Motorcoach Resort. Pricey but nice. About 26 miles from Savannah.

Bob,

There is a lovely campground at Skidaway Island State Park. Mind you, it is just a campground but it has the old fashioned campground layout, huge sites, privacy, full water, electric and sewer but nothing else.

Nestled in a beautiful treed setting and peaceful as can be.
If you are just looking for a home base, I highly recommend this one.

Skidaway is very, very satellite unfriendly due to the heavy tree canopy. There is a cable hookup at each site, but there are no stations that interest me! Also there is NO SEWER at each site which is typical for Georgia State Park Campgrounds.

Bob,

We stayed at Red Gate Farms during the summer of 2011 for a few days. It is nice and pretty close in to town. It is low on ammenities and the office is in the Feed Store. So it is not everyones "cup of tea". Would do it again though, perfect for seeing the sites, doing your own thing and the dogs loved the grounds. I second Red Gate. Nice walking trail and close to everything.

We stayed at Hardeeville RV Park near Hardeeville, SC. It's about 10 min. north of Savanah just off 17. A bit roomier that some of the parks near Savannah, grassy and satellite friendly.

We have also stayed at Hardeville RV. It is a nice to drive to the convention center and take the free water taxi into downtown Savannah. We did the three day and was very easy. Nice park also.
