Worked great a week ago but now won't stay lit. Has a clear fuel filter and although filter looks damp I can't discern that any fuel get pulled into the housing. On the possibility that the filter may be plugged or have a hairline crack allowing it to suck air I by-passed the filter. No change. Last time I tried it seemed to stay lit for a couple of minutes but then went out again.
Thanks for your help.

Take a look at the fuel line. I had to change the fuel line for small cracks in the line. I think it's the heat from the C-12 Cat.

Hi Jerry,
What maintenance have you done up to now? How many hours on the unit? Are you the original owner?
The hurricane heater is a really good heater, but does need some care. It will have required substantial maintenance at about a 1000 hours, and ITR sells a maintenance kit.
Mine was originally diagnosed as leaking fuel lines, until I replaced the internal air filter, fuel filter , ignitor and combustion fan (not part of the general maintenance kit). It runs perfectly now, and has ever since. The internals are not hard to work on, and all the parts are simple to replace.
Don't forget to use the brass bleeder valve to purge air from the fuel system, and of course, there needs to be more than 1/4 tank of fuel in order for the system to draw fuel at all.
The guys at ITR Heat are easy to talk to and very helpful as well.
Luck,
Bob

Thank you that responded here and also those who sent replies at home.
I've had the coach since around mid 2010 and the only maintenance on my Hurricane heater was replacement of the fuel lines which were obviously cracked.
In the time we've had it we probably haven't run the furnace even four hours. After having the fuel lines replaced I ran it a little to check it and then an hour or so on a trip to CT. just playing around. Then over Thanksgiving I started it one morning. Took a few tries but then ran great.
I did run the fuel down to less than 1/4 tank on this trip but filled up before trying the heater. I did open the petcock but in retrospect probably less than a turn. Maybe I need to open it all the way and try?
Thanks,
Jerry

Jerry,
I sent you a few tips to your e-mail. I would open that petcock a full turn and try the Hurricane again. I think you have some air in the lines. It may take a couple tries to get the Hurricane to run. I would reinstall that clear bowl filter to see if it is filling with fuel, then close the petcock once the Hurricane has run for awhile. The center bar for the windshield is part of the structure.

Thank you. Opened the petcock tonight and let it try maybe eight times. The first two or three it ran a couple of minutes and then less and less on subsequent tries. It just isn't pulling fuel in for some reason.

Jerry, you might want to clean the nozzle and replace the nozzle O ring. I have if that O ring is bad, it could allow air into the system and cause a flame out are you getting the "7" error code? What model Hurricane do you have?

Jerry,
Glad you are squared away. Haven't had the problem yet, but what did replacing the fuel lines to the Hurricane entail? Was it a bitch? That is a long way from the tank.

Jerry,
Hurricane (ITR) recommended leaving the petcock on top of the unit slightly cracked open.
Have you had your fuel pump replaced? If it is a roundish one, they are no good. You need the new rectangular one and then you should have no problem.

Rich, I took it to a reputable coach repair shop who subbed the job out and charged me close to $1K for the job.
Yes, I was shocked and no, I will never use that shop again.

Repairs to the hurricane are expensive, my Combustion Air Fan is making a terrible squealing noise, maybe bearings in the fan motor or the fan portion. I checked with Rixen or ITR and price for new fan assembly is $450.00! I am trying to find a shop that will repair the motor or find bearings to replace on my own.
