I want to replace the Hyd filters on my coach. The filters (3) are Nelson elements no. 84220A but can't find the o-ring part number for the lid. I think i can get the filters from Cummins NW in Portland they may have the number don't know. The filter housing calls for Dexron II will Dexron III work? Floyd

Cummings will have better prices than NAPA and you will be getting the OEM product.

Yes i call Cummins and they have the filters but they don't have the o-ring number. A person would think they would have that number because that o-ring can only be used 1 time because of the high oil pressure in the system.

I have had my filters changed twice and I am sure they reused the o ring because I provided the filters and I did not get charged for anything other than the oil and labor.

After spending 2 days reading different things on alot of different forums everyone said because of the high pressure in the system should have a new o-ring, so I found it I think. Will let you know if it is the right one, time will tell.

Floyd,

Unless your system is different from mine there is no pressure at all inside the hydraulic reservoir. It's just a holding tank until the fluid is pulled out buy the suction side of the pump then after the fluid has done it's job it's returned back to the reservoir to be filtered and wait it's turn to be used again. Mine and I suspect yours also, has a open vent installed on the lid of the reservoir? This is to relieve any pressure that may build up.
No need to replace the O-ring unless it's becoming hard and/or brittle or has small cracks in it.

That's my story and I am sticking to it.

You know, I like your story and I think you are right. I just went out and looked and it has a breather cap just like the hyd tank on a dump truck, Thanks.

The tank or reservoir has little or no pressure. Usually the o ring can be reused.

When I changed my hydr fluid, the lid seal looked good, so I reused it (twice so far). As stated, there is no pressure at the tank.

If you can find the o ring it is probably cheap insurance and I am interested.

I will be going in on Friday to pick up more parts. Have not been out of the driveway and the cost keeps going up. Will post if it is the right part the Cat shop did not have the diameter or size of the o-ring so i told them just to order it, if wrong i'm out about $2.50 Floyd
