Hello All,
I took my coach from storage today and while fueling up for a trip to FL tomorrow my dash display 2 warning lights that said the front and rear air brake pressure was low. It was fine when I left storage. After letting the coach run for a while the ir pressure gauge showed the pressure was back up so I continued home. At home it appears the air is bleeding off from a valve of sorts that is in the compartment under the drivers seat. It has never done this before, any help would be greatly appreciated so I can leave tomorrow.
Thanks
Drew

Drew,
Sounds like your auxiliary tire fill air outlet is leaking. If you have a quick connect fitting, check for debris stuck inside. Also check threads with soap solution. if you have a manual shut off valve, check that for bubbles also.

Daron,
It is not leaking from that air hose connection. There is a line that comes directly from the compressor to what looks like an air dryer, this automatic valve is at the bottom of that mechanism.
Still looking for help
Thanks

Drew,
Leaving the drier and before the flexible hose going to the chassis is a small fitting that looks like a coupling with male threads. Inside this coupling is a very small one way valve. It is supposed to let air into the system and close to not let air out. Sounds like it must be stuck or something is holding it open.
You might give this a try,

Drew, If its the valve Barney is talking about. Does it make noise when you try to air up. If so replace it. Go to a truck shop that works on large trucks get the metal unit not the plastic. You will have to select pressures so valve will open and close properly 5psi either way will not matter.

There are a bunch pf places to "lose" air. I had a problem and took the MH to a repair facility and they found 9 leaks including airbags. Some were small, some larger. It's difficult to pinpoint if you don't have a lift. Couple of things to look at, valves for dumping the air, purge valve on the dryer, ride heights. I've found the ride height leaks by shutting the motor off and listening around the wheel, could actually stick my hand on the ones close to the wheel and feel the leak. The other one I had to crawl under the coach.
Once the coach was on the lift, fairly easy to find.

The check valve at the air dryer was the culprit. I tapped on it with a crescent wrench then raised and lowered the coach to run air through the valve to make sure it continued to work properly. I guess it got stuck from sitting idle for a couple months. Thanks to those that responded and also to Butch Williams.

The purge valve on the air dryer is part of scheduled maintenance. I replace mine every other time I change the dryer cartridge.

Hi Dan,
Can I ask where you located the replacement cartridge for the drier? I haven't had any luck finding them.
Thanks,

Dan, how often should the dryer cartridge be changed? John 03 Allure 30951

That is tough to answer. As with the air dryer cartridge it is a matter of the environment in which the coach operates. More humidity the more often the dryer cartridge should be replaced. There used to be a purge valve repair maintenance kit. But Bendix has gone away from that and you can only buy the complete unit for the purge valve. Be aware that Bendix produces remanufactured air dryer cartridges which are just as good as the new (per Bendix tech support) and considerably cheaper. Per Bendix tech support you change the air dryer cartridge when you begin to see evidence of moisture when opening the air valve. I went three years between cartridges without any evidence of moisture but finally decided it was time. The second change of cartridge I replaced the purge valve. I am generally in very dry environments. I like to try and stay ahead of issues because problems always occur in the worst possible time. I would order the cartridge and purge valve and take it to the service center as at least in the case of CAT they don't tend to have the parts on hand.

I am not near my coach records but I believe I bought it from a freight liner truck shop. Ask for the re-manufactured by Bendix cartridge. There are two styles of air dryers they are different for CAT and Cummings. The Bendix tech spt directed me to a web site where you can download the service manual and trouble shooting guides along with part numbers.

Hi Dan,
I am sorry as I misunderstood. I thought we were talking about the small water separator on the supplementary compressor in the electronics bay underneath the driver. The Bendix cartridges are easy to find.
Thanks,

Are you talking about the glass bulb which in side has a white cylinder of desiccant that is for removing water from the compressor air? If so I found the complete unit but it was very expensive. It is in my stack of projects to continue to try an locate the desiccant filter as a replacement part. I did find the plastic external air filter for the compressor from Grainger.

Hi Dan,
Yes, that is the filter I was looking for. Haven't had any luck finding it thought. Mine is starting to fall apart. Do you remember where you found the complete unit?
Thanks for the response.

I am away from my coach and paper work but I talked to the guys at NWH?? the leveling system guys. This a part that they purchased but is connected to the leveling system and they said that they buy it as a unit and I did get a price which I cannot remember. I am going to continue working it I wanted to track down the manufacturer. As I remember the manufacturer was bought out but the company still exist. I believe this is a important item and I have seen some filters that were green from algae. I have not found a tech yet that has ever serviced this item but all agree it should. If you get any ideas let me know.

Hi Dan,
I think I found what we've been looking for. Just search for 'Parker PS702P'. Fits my coach perfectly.
Parker PS702P Plastic Filter Element for 06F and 06E Series Filter/Regulator,... (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00847W1JE/ref=asc_df_B00847W1JE2374025/?tag=countrycoach-20&creativeASIN=B00847W1JE&linkCode=asn) Barney

FYI,
Got to looking at the old filter I replaced and it has a '40' written on the side. I am guessing this would be 40 Microns? If so you would want Parker part number PS701P. The PS702P is a 5 micron filter. Not sure what difference it could make and the new filter did not have a number on the side.

My wife and I are full-timing in our 2009 Veranda 300 with our Great Pyrenees-Ezra. So far so good but when we leave the coach we worry about our dog's safety. We have considered leaving our coach unlocked but that then risks losing stuff not a big deal or having our dog stolen. Doesn't seem to be the answer. Since many coach owners have dogs I was wondering how others deal with this issue. Thanks for any feedback.

Hello Al
Is your safety concern about the coach becoming too hot/cold, fire, etc.? We leave our coach locked. We have a "PET ALERT" decal on our front window shield that reads "Please safe our pets!", "One Dog and One Cat", if someones sees a fire, flood, or some other disaster. We will leave roof vent open, AC on when hot and a window open on nice days.
Hope this helps.

To add to George's info. We also will leave a key with the parks staff, and a few times with coaches near us. In all of these examples, we make a judgement call about the situation. So far, so good.
Insurance will cover property loss, people will cover saving a family friend/pet... We fill the risk is warranted, but again you need to have had some interaction with those involved, to get a fill for how comfortable you are in leaving a key.
Best to all,
Smitty

There were some people at the FMCA rally in Coos Bay that were selling "SAVE OUR PETS" banners to attach to the Coach. There is a space for the pet names and owners names and phone numbers. Ron and I have one that we put out whenever we leave Pepper and Snickers in the coach alone. I think that gives whatever good samaritan the okay to get into the coach in whatever way necessary in an emergency.

Interesting question, but I have the same stickers on my entrances to my home. The one big thing you have to consider is homes are usually bigger and have more than one way in and out. Plus they can retreat to another part of the house not so much in a coach.
Still good for the thought process.

If the park we are staying in "feels" safe, we leave our door unlocked so someone would have a better chance to rescue our dogs if needed. We also have the "Pets Inside" sticker next to our door. However, our Goldens are usually with us when we leave our motorhome when traveling, unless it's too hot. We usually turn off our Norcold fire hazard when we're gone to reduce the chance of a fire. As far as our stickhouse, we don't have neighbors so theirs not much we can do. We are both retired, so one of us is usually home.

Have someone hands-on babysit your pets or take them with you.
In the event of AC failure on a hot day, nobody outside the RV will know it has failed...
In the event of fire, nobody will get or find your pets, especially the cat (they hide). There will be no time anyway once your coach's fire is discovered. I assume your pets will not be in crates, which will make them impossible to find quickly, assuming they have survived to that point. Your ceiling will have become a broiler and a person would have to be insane to go into that RV even to save another person, much less somebody's pets.
Perhaps you need to see one of these RV fires to understand how impossible your planning advice has been so far. The Devil could not do more deadly damage as quickly as your RV fire.
Plan? Get rid of all possibility of fire (see fridge fires) or AC failure or have someone hands-on babysit the pets.

Thank you so much for the feedback. We will be getting a pet alert sign and also consider leaving a key with park staff or nearby coaches in the future. Our main concern has always been a fire given we have a Norcold unit and on this issue besides the recalls we have installed a fire suppression system that is designed to put out any fire before it spreads. Thanks again and safe travels to all.
