For the past 7 years I've ponder what's right and what's wrong with my MPG. So I'm once again asking for the 'experts' here for an opinion.
Same pattern every fill up.
This weeks figures.
554 miles as per the dash gauge. 561 per Silverleaf.
63.192 gallons. (Always use Loves or similar).
Silverleaf tells me 9.6MPG. I figure 8.77.
Tires are almost new. Flat roads. No weather issues. 60mph.
Every tank full I get the same % difference between my head and Silverleaf.
It's of no concern but still something is wrong. Even if you use the different miles the gallons stay the same but you get different answers.
This weeks puzzle!

When I have a difference like that, it's usually because i forgot about the diesel used for the Hurricane furnace and hot water which Silverleaf doesn't see.

Affinity 40' 1996 Cat 350 hp Florida driving 62mph. Caterpillar dealer just did a computer diagnostic which showed fuel mileage to be 8.17 mpg. That is up from my calculations at 7.5 mpg, I am pleased.

I generally get the same type of differential between the Silverleaf and manual calculations. I've calibrated the speedo against road tests along some of the interstates and my GPS and it is very close to on the money. I've been told by several techs that the Silverleaf is not accurate for these types of calculations and generally reads high (both mpg and its derivation, miles travelled) I tend to believe my own calculations because I ran the tank nearly dry and had to manually pump fuel through the system to restart having relied on the Silverleaf. 6.7 to 6.8 mpg at 60-62 is about it!
