I have a 2008 Intrique 45 with a tag. I'm sure this question has been asked in the past but has anyone out there with my type of coach bought these shocks. My coach does not ride terrible but better is better. They are lots of money and was just wondering if people have bought them and are really happly with the results or just a little. And would you spend the money again. The fellow is telling me to replace all six. The back ones are pretty new as I have broken a couple of sets until I found out this coach was not four wheel drive. Thanks for any help or advice FRank

I replaced ours last year with road kings (6) and have been very pleased. Would do it again and worth the money.

I replaced all six shocks on my '03 40 foot tag Intrigue with Road Kings last September. My improvement was huge, but then my Konis were abolutley shot and when I saw how shot they were, I was glad that I spent the money and put a truly premium set on my coach.

I put on Road kings last year and I am a very happy camper. I had some original equipment Koni's and my basic problem was porpoising. The porpoising has gone away and the overhal ride is much metter. Yes, I would buy them again

My opinion on Road Kings is not the same as others.
I won't spend the money as I feel they are WAY over rated and over priced and this opinion comes from having them on 2 CC coaches.
On one coach they made a slight improvement, but i think any new shocks would have done the same. On the second coach they were awful and I was considering having them removed. I'm now on my 3rd CC and I'm not going to spend the money because I can justify the cost vs benefit. When I need to replace the shocks I'm going to stick to looking at Koni's or Bilstiens.
One thing with Road Kings is that when they hit a dip, the first up/down movement is HUGE and then they start to dampen. On our second coach, just after Road Kings, that huge movement pitched things around in a front cabinet so bad stuff flew out. I ended up putting safety latches on the front cabinets because California roads have gotten so bad. At one point I5 south of Buttonwillow to the Grapevine had chuck holes big enough to swallow a tire. This section of the Interstate really tested your suspension, plus your driving skills to dodge them.

Frank,
I added the Road Kings almost 2 yeas ago and I am very impressed with them. Would do it again without hesitation. Solved my extreme bottoming problem and constant Porpoising is gone also.

I do no have any personal experience with Road King, but I do know they are VERY expensive. I had my Koni shocks (front) set to the stiffest position and my ride is fine.

Frank,
Added Roadkings on the front of our 40' Intrigue and find porpoising well controlled but ride horrible. Bridge expansion joints hit hard enough to bring trim off ceiling! Could be I have wrong Roadkings but I'd rather have my $$$ and Koni shocks back. Really like Bilsteins.

I think that it is now time for me to consider replacing my shocks.
I have no idea about the cost --- Road King vs the others.
I would appreciate if others could share their knowledge/experience with the cost involved.
Thanks Den

Den,
I called Road King and the y emailed me a price quote of $2100 for the 6 shocks for my 45' 2006 Intrigue w/ tag. I have not ordered them. I am going to try setting my Koni shocks to the firmest setting first and see how that goes.

I would get the numbers off of your Konis and call their tech support. I was told that for a number of years Coaches CC did not consult with Koni and that the shocks were undersized particularly for the heavier coaches. I have never had an issue with bottoming out and have be on some pretty nasty roads and speep bumps in Mexico. I don't have the heaviest coach but it is a 40 ft with tag.

My coach started to bottom out and bounce freely down the road. A check revealed the original Koni's had failed totally, and were providing zero damping. I called Koni(after considering Road Kings) and Koni said CC had changed the travel of the IFS AFTER they told Koni what they wanted for shocks(non-adjustable golds). Long story short, Koni provided replacement shocks to me at no cost(adjustable SP-3's) and the ride is great. If I would have had to pay, they would cost one-third the price of Road Kings. Hard to imagine the RK's would be 3X better.

I've been following this thread as input came in. Now will give my $.02.
I bought our coach 2 1/2 years ago, and the front end was in trouble from the very first test drive. Very little feeling of 'control', bottomed out on the test drive, and porposing. As part of the agreement to purchase our rig, we received agreement to try the Koni Adjustable SP1 shocks on the highest setting. We also had a credit towards replacement shocks.
We found the highest setting to help some, but still did not have the ride I wanted. So we went with the Road Kings all around. Yes, expensive, but I looked at it as a one time buy, and with the credit, it did not hurt as much:)! I will note that again this is the SP1 Adjustables, and that the newer SP3 generation are more robust. While I did not try them to know for sure, I have not doubt they would have improved upon the SP1 generation. I still went with the Road Kings.
Road Kings made a big difference in 'control'. Not porposing, never bottomed out again. We also added Super Steer Motion Control Units front and rear, which I also feel has helped quite a bit.
We all have different opinions on what is important to us, and I consider handling to be a safety item. I use the term 'BMW" ride vs "Cadilac" when it comes to handling. These are large rigs, so no, I'm not racing thru "S" curves:)! But I do feel I have a safer ride.
For those of you that have Road Kings and do not like the ride, it is my understanding that Road King will 're-valve' their shocks. It does not hurt to call and talk with them to see if the ride could be adjusted to what you are looking for.
I recommend Road Kings and look at the costs spread out over a decade + of planned usage:)!
Best of luck to you all on your choice, be safe, have fun, Smitty

Hi all of you knowledgable folks!!! Hope you can help.
It's winter here in Traverse City, MI, where we are taking care of our 3 grandkids while their parents enjoy themselves in Cancun. Naturally, we have our CC with us mainly because we have 2 small Havanese dogs. After walking the dogs about an hour ago, I took the dogs back to the coach so they could have a rest from the 3 little kids, and either the lower lock simply locked itself or the dogs could have stepped on the remote lock too. Yes, I was the one who left the keys with the remote upon on the dash!!! So, we have had a locksmith here for about 35 minutes and he's having no luck.
Do any of you have any suggestions. The other things is that my husband leaves at least one window unlocked, but on our ride over here from MN, the windows which were not locked blew open, so I locked them and neglected to unlock them upon our arrival here. As Charlie Brown says, "AAAAARRRGh!!"
Thanks for any help.

Hello again only a few minutes later. Looks like I should have been a bit more patient. The excellent locksmith, Northwest Lock of Traverse City, MI, decided to get a pick he'd just put in the truck as he left home to help us, and that was the pick that worked. He said it was a very stiff lock especially the unlock side. Hope this helps somebody out there in the future. Thanks.

I have had my locks engage on their own at least 1/2 a dozen times. I keep a hidden key in the generator area that is easily acessable. I know it will happen again.

Mary - Glad you got in. We keep extra emergency keys for both locks hidden for that "just in case" situation. Not needed them yet. Might be something for everyone to consider. As your story reveals, getting in a locked bus isn't easy. We've also had locks freeze up. That requires a hair dryer to thaw them out. Another story perhaps not even worth mentioning. Safe travels.

It won't happen as long as you can remember where you put the key.

Our 2002 Affinity used to lock itself all the time. Took us a couple of years to figure it out and it was crossed wires in the door where it enters the coach. It was actually Kevin Waite of Junction City who steered me in that direction. Is still have the habit of never leaving the coach without a door key in my pocket.
The fix was to replace the worn wires.

Thanks, Bob and Barbara! The rule now is to have a key hidden if we can find the right place AND to never leave the coach w/o a key in our pockets! Plus we'll be at LazyDays for some work this week and will ask them about this problem too. We were relieved and so happy to have such an honorable and never give up locksmith show up!

Thanks, Tom. It eases my embarrassment for leaving the keys ON the dash where the dogs sit when we're gone. A key will be hidden, and we'll have one in our pockets too from now on.
