These are 2 pictures of the rocks that we collected on our tow vehicle during the trip to Alaska. We did have the flap on and I believe that it sits about 1 1/2 to 2" above the ground as we travel. I thought it would stop and/or help in the stopping of rocks hitting the tow vehicle. I will let you make that decision. A large majority of the roads in Canada and Alaska are normal as in the US. We gather these rocks on the road from Destruction Bay to Tok. It was the worst road that we travelled on. There was alot of perma frost that caused the road to be so bad and Canada DOT was working on it. My speed did not ever get faster than 35 MPH in this section. But, the road construction trucks were never slower than 50 MPH, loaded or unloaded. they passed me like I was sitting still and several times I did "STOP" as they passed in both directions.

Have not had them that big, but have not ever traveled too far on rough roads either:)! Quite often we had pea gravel size accumulation at the base of our windshield, just driving the normal roadways, especially if road work is going on. We also picked up more dings in the hood paint of our CRV in 10K of travel behind the Allure, then we ever had in about 35K miles of travel with the Bounder. And, we did take that Bounder on many more 'off highway' adventures:)!
We plan to remove our solid rock guard for our upcoming three to four month trip. This includes a run to Alaska...

We'll see how this compares to before.

Best to all,
Smitty

We have a roadmaster rock guard, the vertical type, that we have used with our 04 Odessey and now our 2012 CRV. With the van we got very small chips on the bottom lip of the van the guard didn't quite cover. On the CRV after a year of travels approaching 5000 miles we have not recieved on identifiable mark.

We use the same roadmaster rock guard and have to look to find any chips on our paint. We travel a lot of Montana roads where they are chip sealing and the gravel really flys.

Check out the Protect a tow. I have one and love it, also easy to store.
