I have had DTV since 1993 and I can tell you that there has been a huge improvement in their customer service. Sometimes you do not get the sharpest knife in the drawer but you can hang up and call back. They do have some issues with trying to understand motor homes but when that happens I ask to be transferred to the 2nd level techs and usually get sound answers. Current customers can establish their account on line and review all your programming and charges. I do not own stock in DTV.

I loved the 310. At the time my missions were 500 - 600 miles and all weather all year. I was based in Northern MN and (because of the northern latitude) did a lot of night flying. I wanted the redundency of the 2nd engine, turbonormalized, lots of power and known ice. I used it all. Added bonus was I could load up the family, the dog, car seats, golf clubs and full fuel and still have plenty of gross wt and cg to work with. I flew it for about 1100 hours. I downsized to a 210 when the kids started moving out and it was just mostly my wife and I and I wasn't using the plane for business so I had a lot more weather flexibility. The 210 was turbonormalized and deiced as well. I did lots of IFR flying but not low IFR and not at night with the single engine. I know lots of people that do, but its just not my bag. I sold the plane when I was only flying 30 or 40 hours a year which I think is insufficient for good IFR proficiency. Going slow in the coach is a lot more fun at this stage in the game. From day one (Ive been a pilot for almost 30 years) was to quit before statistics caught up with me. We knew that we wanted a coach and would travel a great deal - so having a plane sitting in the hanger made no sense. There may be a light sport or a cub in the future though :)

I don't know if Jim knew your BiL but I lived in Duluth for twenty years and sailed with a fellow named Jim Courtney. He was an lawyer. Jim was a free spirit and lots of fun. I believe he died in an aviation accident.
