We headed out from Buckhorn Lake Resort yesterday to head up to the CC factory for some work we needed done. Got 5.7 miles up the road when the engine died. Got towed in to Le Meilleur truck repair in Kerrville. They found no fuel delivery problem, so apparently the problem is in the electronics, which they don't have the tools to diagnose. Getting towed back to San Antonio tomorrow for Holt Cat to have a look.
Makes me wonder though, with Cat getting out of the over-the-road business, how easy it is going to be in the future to get Cat engines serviced on the road away from Cat shops. I know Cat will be there, but independent operators may be reluctant to invest in Cat diagnostic tools. We are looking at replacing our coach next year, and most of the CC coaches we look at have Cat engines. Something to ponder!
Hopefully we'll find out in the next couple of days what is the issue with our coach--we'll have to postpone our appointment at Counry Coach, but that's the least of our concerns right now.
