Happy Memorial Day to everyone!
As you may have read we are new to this slide business having moved from our 99 Magna with none to this 2006 Affinity. So I have some questions for you "experienced people".
We are in Rapid City ND (actually at Ellswother AFB) and there is a potential for severe weather. Our neighbors here on base are saying they have had up to 50 and 60 mph winds lately and have had slide room awning damage. So they said they bring in their slides during such weather.
I searched the archives and didn't see any info about related so I'm throwing out the question. Should we? We have Zip Dee awnings on the slides.

By all means, bring them in. You'll suffer water damage and torn awnings for sure.

I have only had to pull in my slides due to wind once while stationary in Boise, Idaho. I was parked at right angles to the wind and I could see the front coming so when the winds started to unfurl the topper awnings I pulled the rooms in (Intrigue). I have been in wind storms as strong when facing into or away from the wind with no issues. But as this will be your first time I would say pull in your slides. And make sure your patio awning or awnings are buttoned up tight. As you have Garard awnings and I have Zip dee we are talking McIntosh and Delicious apples. Different and yet the same as they are the best of their types. I live in the Southwest and have traveled all over West Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and the deserts of California. My worst wind storm was in AZ and fortunately the RV park owner parked us pointing into the wind!( Airstream). Another time was on the coast of Oregon with the Allure, but again I was pointed into the wind. I had 18" long tie wraps with me and always secured my Zip dee patio awnings when in Durango, Colorado during thunder storm season as I have seen five unsecured awnings blown off TT's and class A's in one evening( Airstream and Allure) . We always put in the slides when the wind gets over about 40mph. We can usually hear the awnings and know when it's time to pull them in. You can't sleep with them flapping anyway.

Echo Jim's thoughts
Tend to bring the big slides in when winds start gusting / blowing 30 mph +
Bedroom / smaller slides come in as well when wind speeds approach 40 mph
Adopt similar thinking / practices when heavy rain / similar forecast
We prefer to live for short periods in 'cosy' conditions rather then the expense of water damage to the slides / replacement toppers and awnings
(Frequently exercising the slides also encourages us not to 'clutter' the floor space - as well as keeping the slides operational / working!!)

Thanks everyone for the advice. The only time that would have applied so far we were not in the coach. It was hailing and the wind was blowing but it was too risky to have tried to get back in.

A funneling of winds by Parleys Canyon. We never retracted our slides. Good luck.
