Title: Folding Ladder Storage

I purchased a 7 ft. aluminum folding ladder from a friend. It is the type that is sold at Camping World. It needs to be stored in a pass through bay due to its length.
I seem to remember someone commenting on storing it in a length of 4" square hollow vinyl fence post material. But I am not sure about the exact location and details of the mounting of the tube in the compartment.
Any ideas would be appreciated

Mine fit right next to the slide out tray in the large bay. Otherwise wasted space.

Ive seen them in 4 or 5" tubes of PVC strapped to the side of a bay with plumbers tape. I' have also seen the screw in hangers being used attached to a 2 X 2 mounted to the wall.. Mine just sits on one side of a full length side tray by Slimslider.

I store mine in the smaller storage area, next to the sliding tray. Semi-easy to get in and out.
Another Item I recently started carrying is the standing platform or equipment table that I got with my Little Giant Ladder....http://www.ebay.com/itm/Little-Giant-Ladder-System-Work-Platform-Ladder-ST10104-/161025845957?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item257de36ac5

I store mine in a plastic 6X6 fence post cover that comes with post caps. My propane tank runs side to side the width of the coach. I fastened the plastic post cover along side the tank. Raise the door to the propane tank, slide the ladder into the 6x6 cover and push on the cap. I glued one cap one end and threaded a cord through the other cap so that I could pull it off.

Hi Dan,

I want to buy a ladder and store it in the propane tank area. I'm trying to picture the fence post cover and how you fastened it to the inside of that area? Do you have a photograph? Thanks for the posts.

I store my 6' ladder in a 4" square fencepost in the propane bay (front bay, passenger side), store a 7' ladder on hangers in the 3rd bay back. The 7' double sided ladder will not fit in a 4" post. Also carry an 8' 2x12 that I can use as a scaffold using the 2 ladders. Can post some pictures if interested.

I have a 7 foot double sided ladder and as you say, it will not fit inside a 4 inch fence post, but I do store it in a 5 inch fencepost.

Marc,

Did you purchase the 5" fence post from a fence installer? Is it PVC (rigid vinyl)? I have visited several home centers. None of them stock this.
I am still searching.

Marc,

Follow-up. Sorry for my last post.
I did a little research online. It appears that I was shopping the wrong stores.
5" square x 8' is available at a nearby Home Depot @ $24.97.

I got mine from a fence supply company and they cut it to the length that I needed. I believe some of the box store items are more brittle and harder to cut to length.

I also got it from Home Depot. No problem cutting it on a table saw with a plywood blade.

Attached pictures of how I mounted the fence post cover alongside my propane tank. On each side of the post cover I have a 2X2 which goes across the coach. It fits tight enough that you can just lay the wood down on the metal cross members. On one end I screwed a framing clip to the bottom of the coach floor and the end cap to prevent the ladder from shifting horizontally. The post cover on top is used to store extra sewer hose as we will often drive in to a back in site in order to have a better view. The top cover was simply glued to the bottom cover with vinyl fencing glue. The ladder has been traveling in the compartment for 5 or 6 years with no issues.

Dan,

At last I understand! I have been reading this thread about fence posts and folding ladders trying to work out how the hell you get a ladder into a post! I have not seen these type of ladders, can you give me a link to them? I have a telescopic ladder which also goes in half to form a step ladder, so I can get to the top of the coach or work around it to gutter level.

Thanks

Google folding ladder and several sources come up; also, Camping World has them and calls it a double rung folding ladder. They don't look very sturdy and I was reluctant to buy one until I saw it actual use. I use it regularly to clean the windshield and have not seen anything which I would prefer over it. The storage issue is also big for me.

It is plenty sturdy for me at 170 pounds. If you weigh a lot more that me it could be an issue but I doubt it. They are plenty strong, maybe a tiny bit more wobbly than others but quite adequate IMHO.

This is a test by the Group Moderator to verify how to reply to a message THREAD (about Folding Ladder Storage). I will later document my findings. It appears to be a matter on where to click to read the WHOLE thread, or see an individual message view (sorted by message number) -- yes, message numbers still exist.
My concern is how to search the photo sections for the album or photo that has text (picture title, etc) associated with it

Extra sewer hose. For a better view I will sometimes drive into a back in site and then need additional sewer hose.

Daron,

My stick ladder is stored in the propane bay above the fuel tank, slides right in. Just be aware of where the hoses and wires to the tank are, Have been using this location for 14+ years with no problems. Also use that space to store 4 other items.
