Title: Fuel gauge sending unit

Fuel gauge on dash is not working. Says more than full all the time when the key is on and 3/4 full when the key is off. Looks like i need to replace the sending unit that is in the tank. Hope to get some info maybe from some one that has this problem. My cc is 2001 Intrigue #11266 Thanks, Bill

Bill,

I had a problem for a while with a jumpy reading from full to somewhere less than full for months. It finally failed and is pegged to the right past full at all times with ignition on. I suspect, as well as my RV mechanic, that I will have to replace the sender. Sadly, it appears to be a 'drop the tank' project, so I am not going to get it done anytime soon. Our sender appears to be in the middle of the tank (about a 4 ft reach through the small inspection door) and not too much vertical clearance. If there is an angel out there with better news, I would be gracious.

Check the grounding of the fuel tank and the fuel sender. My experience with gauges that read like you describe is in the wiring.

Bill and Tom,

Mine did the same thing on it's maiden voyage home and I was 50 miles from a fueling station when just as I looked at my full gas gage and watched it drop to empty. The audible alarm started going off "Low Diesel" about every minute and it also shut my generator down at the same time in over 100 deg. temperatures. When I finally got the MH filled up it took 175 gallons but the fuel gage stayed on empty and the audible alarm continued to sound. I disconnected the audible and drove it on home. I took the fuel sender out of the tank and couldn't find anything wrong so I put it back together and It has worked fine ever since. The only thing I could figure is maybe there was a bad connection or it mechanically got stuck? Kevin Burns

Have you located the sending unit or have any idea where to get one. CC says they do not have.

My gauge had a mind of its own. Problem turned out to be the wire between the sender and the gauge. It seems to have been shorting to ground. Abandoned the original wire and ran a new one and the problem went away.
