I have a choice to make between a CAT C-10 and a Detroit series 330hp. I would appreciate any words of wisdom. We plan to drive out West a good bit.
Thanks in advance,
CSL

It depends on the size and weight of the coach. Plus you didn't give the relative torque value, which is most important when moving heavy coaches. I believe the detroit came in early Magna's, and a friend who owned one said the coach couldn't get out of its own way. The Cat C-10 with 385 horses came in later Magnas and some folks had over heating issues, but that doesn't mean they all did. If my ISL 400 with 1250 ft lbs can move 43,000 lbs down the road I bet a C-10 with 1350 lbs of torque can, too. The questions are, would you be satisfied with the fuel milage and would the performance make you happy or would you prefer a C-12 with 505 HP and appx 1500 ft lbs, or do you want a C-13 with 525 hp and appx 1550 ft lbs of torque.

Mikee you know a lot about trucks and motor homes, what is your profession? Do you operate a shop? Keep the good information coming.

I own a couple of businesses. One is a trucking interest, another is a shop. I am also a ASE world Class Tech. To mention a few.

I've been observing Mikee's comments for many long years and I have seen his list of certifications. If Mikee speaks, you better listen. He is one person on this forum you can depend on. He is being very, very, very modest in describing his qualifications. I can't imagine anyone on this forum, or anywhere else for that matter, being more qualified on just about anything to do with big rigs than Mikee.
