Title: CAT C-10 Wrist Pin Failure

Anyone out there with a Cat C-10 and experienced a wrist pin fatigue failure?

I own a 1999 CC Magna, 40 ft., 52K miles and had a wrist pin failure on no. 1 cylinder. I fished out two metal pieces from oil pan. One was 1 3/9 in. by 1/4 in. Second, smaller and it was 3/8 in by 1/4 in. Both pieces were crescent shaped and two different metal colors - copper like and cast iron. Appears problem maybe a latent defect in machining of the C-10 connecting rods. Machining caused very slight gap to exist between connecting rod and bearing surface.
Compression/combustion forces forced bearing to mate acrossed the slight gap between two surfaces and viola, you eventually have fatigue (like bending the paper clip until it breaks).

We have 38k on our C-10 and no failure.

My '00 Magna with a C10 has no major problems in 60 thousand plus. I had a problem with the air-to-air radiator cracking and loose bolts on the C10 oil pump. jerry in NM, '00 Magns.
