Not sure about Lincoln but with my car I can turn key all the way to Off. Leave key in the ignition and wheels will continue to turn--Do Not Take Key Out

SOME, not all of Ford's 4 WD vehicles are towable, but not all. Check with your local Dealer.
Ford does not currently have any AWD (all wheel drive) vehicles that are towable.
Check with your local Dealer.

You need to check with a Ford Dealer. Ford changes their minds on several vehicles that were originally approved for towing. The ford Fusion is one that comes to mind.

I tow a Ford Edge and use same procedure as you except I installed a Toad-Charge in the vehicles. I have no dead battery problems. Good luck.

Thank You, when I purchased my 2008 Lincoln SUV I met with the transmission mechanic and he assured me that all I needed to do was exactly what you have indicated. But I will re read the manual again, I am not sure my sequence is exactly what you have indicated, but I do all the same stuff.

Hi to Everyone on this Thread
On all the Fords I have towed I was always told I had to have a manual Driveshaft diconnect installed or a pump to keep the trans lubricated. It had to be engaged or disengaged from underneath the Vehicle or by remonte cable inside the car. Very clumsy, awkward and a big pain. Everyone was buying Saturns or Jeeps to tow 4 wheels down.
I heard that Ford had a device that would Disconnect both driveshafts on any 4WD Ford by going through a simple shutdown procedure. I checked with 3 Dealers and they basically said I was crazy it could not be done, it was inpossible. As the expert from the trans department explained, If I understood how a transmission worked I would be smart enough to understand how stupid this was
Later I was waiting to sign the papers on Company truck when I picked up the Ford RV and Truck Brochure printed and published by Ford. On the last page they had a very small device displayed that mounted under the dash with an indicator light on it. The title said "Tow any Four Wheel Drive Ford with Four Wheels Down behind your Motorhome" Took it into the Service Department and you have never seen such a POed Service Advisior, Manager and expert Trans Dept Manager in your life.
It cost $39.95 and 1 hour to install. It is only about the size of a match book and mounts under the dash. The shutdown is as follows: 1) place the Automatic Trans in "N" 2) place and hold your foot on the brake 3) turn the ing switch to the off position. The light on the the mod will flash about 6 times, then you will hear the trans disconnect and your ready to tow, no problems. When you get back in and do "anything" with the brake, key, or gear shift the trans connects back up.
If you Dealer can't help you let me know and I will get the Ford Part Number and post it.

Additional information after the trans has disconnected the light on the mod goes to steady yellow indicating you are ready to tow. Chris
