Title: 1999 Allure, Atwood Water Heater

Hey guys,

This coach has an Atwood Water Heater, GCH6A-9E; 6 Gallon, Electronic Gas Combo w/Heat Exchanger.
Now I think I understand the description of this model? It operates on the following?
110 VAC
LP Gas

Heat Exchanger via Engine?
1. Do I have to turn the Rocker Switch on inside the Coach at the Control Panel for the Water Heater to operate in any model?
2. Is the 110 VAC supposed to heat water ONLY when the switch is on?
3. Should I have Hot Water if the Engine is running?

Help !!!!!

The rocker switch for your Allure should be for propane operation. The light on the rocker switch will stay lit until the hot water ignites; if it fails to light, the light will come back on. The 110V heats the hot water via an element in the hot water heater. The Atwood has an "On/Off" switch on the heater itself. You may have an external switch for the electric. On my Magna I do not. I turn the electric side "On/Off" via the circuit breaker in the main breaker panel. You will have to look at the back of the hot water heater to see if you have heater hoses going to the back. If the heater hoses are there, it's just an external plate that heats the hot water heater via engine coolant. There is no element from the engine immersed in the hot water heater. If you have this, it takes quite sometime for that engine coolant to get that water hot.
