Title: Xantrex Acting Up on way to Annual Service

The Xantrex inverter does not appear to be charging as we drive. It sits at 70%. It charges when we arrive at our campsite and plug into 50amp and then moves up slowly. It also charges when we run the gen.

There is a flashing red light on the inverter.
By the way, we are headed to Junction City to perform at the Scandinavian Festival Thursday through Sunday and then have our annual service at OMC on Monday. Do you suppose the inverter knows about the annual service coming up and has decided to act up?

Any suggestions before we get there?

Shirley,

I had similar symptoms with my Xantrex inverter recently & had to replace it. The flashing red light indicates a problem with the inverter---not necessarily total failure, although it was in my case. I spoke with several knowledgeable technicians & most agreed that these units were prone to failure after 5-6 years.
Best to have it checked out once you've reached your destination. Mine would not charge the batteries even on shore power, so I put a battery charger on the house batteries until I was able to replace the unit. I replaced my inverter with a Magnum which was recommended by a number of technicians and many of the forum members.

Good Luck

Shirley,

I can't help with on the road solutions to the Xantrex problem. We had to replace the original Xantrex in our coach and then the new one, installed in 2007, started to act up at the CC Rally in Albany in 2008. Our solution was easy, we had OMC replace it with a Magnum. We haven't had any problems with the inverter since and have added the Samsung option for the Norcold recall.
