Title: Looking to purchase a 2008 Intrigue

I am looking at an early 2008 Intrigue with 8,000 miles on the odometer. From the collective "Brain Trust" in this forum could you tell me what problems I should be aware of in a unit that is 6 years old and been in covered storage most of it's life. Present owner has replaced all of the tires but not the batteries. How can I tell if algae or other things are growing in the fuel tank? I am a former '03 Allure owner but this Intrigue is a different beast.

Martin, if you have the double fuel filter set-up in the right rear bay, one of the filters should have a clear plastic bowl bottom. If so look at the fuel in the bowl. If you see black flaky stuff you have algae in the tank. If its clear, buy an anti-algae product and treat your tank. As a back-up buy a couple of sets of fuel filters and know how to do the replacements.

Lee:

Thanks for your reply about the tank algae, What about the transmission fluid, hydraulic fluid, etc., etc. I am not certain any of this has been changed, ever. Should I replace the transcend and all other fluids including engine coolant? Again, the coach only has 8,000 miles but it is coming up on 7 years old.

C-13 Cat. What do you think about the Cat engine now that Caterpillar is out of the over the road business?

I would replace all fluids, everywhere and that includes the coolant for the hydro or Aqua hot and the Genset.. Check the bottom of the ice maker tray to make sure the teflon isn't pealing off. Even the Dexron 3 used for hydraulic fluid for the fan and power steering. Call HWH and ask about their specific hydraulic fluid life span. I'd like to know the answer.. TWI 2004 intrigue 11731

I would suggest changing all the fluids due to age alone. If your engine coolant is green you should change to the reddish/orange OAT technology coolant and don't forget to change the thermostats.
I bouught my 2005 Inspire two years ago. I did not get any maintenance records so I assumed all fluids were original and changed everything. Concerning your transmission, change the filters and switch to the newer Transynd TES 295 fluid if that's not what's already in it.

Marty, with rare exception the C-13 has been a good engine for CC owners. I'm quite happy with mine.
CAT is no longer building over-the-road engines but is 100% supporting all engines so that fact is irrelevant to you and I.
ASAP I recommend you call the CAT Help Line (877 777-3126) with your engine number, probably KCB XXXXX. Find out if it has been registered with them and have that done and all information updated.

Find out the status of your engines 5-year warranty.

Find you local CAT Service Center. I recommend you take it in for -
An oil/filter change
New belts (save the oil)
SOS tests on you old oil and current coolant. These are chemical tests which will report out in great the detail on the status of your coolant system.

Even if you are a DIY guy the test information will give you a solid baseline for future decisions.

Oops didn't mean to end/send the prior email so I continue . . .

If you have the two fuel filter set-up with pump attached (I can send you a pix) you can or I can outline the process to change fuel filters.

Also discuss with the CAT Service Center the merits of them running an engine diagnostics test. If it were me, I would. There's more but all this is a good start.

Where are you located?

Good advice from the gang to change all fluids, and filters. Add the air brake cartridge to this mix too.
And I may have missed it, but I don't think I saw anyone suggest pulling samples to send in for full analysis. This will give you a very good 'Report Card' on current health of engine and transmission. And provide you a baseline for comparisons in the future.
Enjoy your coach, and with such little usage, don't be surprised to find small 'not used' items popping up that may need maintenance...

Best,
Smitty

Lee, I have been away from my computer all day, just now reading your post. I am located in far south Florida (Hollywood ) About 30 miles north of Miami. Any help on the procedure it takes to change the filters would be appreciated. Email to amo3232@... (amo3232@...)
