I was looking at the video for the new 2014 Dutch Star, and they have a roll down screen on the screen entry door, so when you are traveling you can see out the door window clearly! A great idea, has anyone seen this and can you point me in the direction of the supplier?

We've had it for about 5 years.

Just make sure they supplement the catches at the bottom with magnets. Without them, the screen will retract when you slam the door. And I do mean retract!

Hallelujah!!!! I'm the one most often in the rider's seat, and it is difficult to see very well through our door screen. Thank you so much for this idea. We had a Phantom Screen on a condo outside door, and it was great, but they do RETRACT quickly with quite a bang when it happens not on purpose! Would you please tell me if there's a specific thing to ask for as I just checked the website. Would I ask for a window screen or for a door screen?

Thank you, Jay.

Jay, I know its been 5 years, however, do you have any detailed info on what exactly you purchased. Does it have side rails it slides in? Do you have the dimension for height and width? I have the same door you would have.

Mary, I'm not sure there is a difference. It will be a custom fit, and mine retracts upward, as a window shade. Just tell them what you plan to do. I would have them install it.
The case matches the screen door but I can't remember if I ordered it that way or if it was coincidence.

I don't remember the price, but 'twernt cheap!

Hi Jay and others,

This is the web page for the Dutch Star video.
http://www.newmarcorp.com/motor-coaches/diesel/dutch-star/overview The door screen is about half way through. The one they have pulls UP from a cassette attached to the screen door inside the door. Looks a great idea. I have struggled to find similar on the site you suggested. I think I will bite the bullet and ask Newmar???

Newmar are great, just went to their web site, the part is Item, 122998, Shade/Screen Entry Door Pull Up. Now all I need to know is the size to see if it fits? Someone must make these for them.

Hi Michael,

We may be talking apples and oranges here. The Phantom Screen is a bug screen that replaces the fixed screen on the screen door. It is not a privacy shade.
It allows one to retract the screen from the field of view of the passenger when the coach is underway.
I still must drag the windshield curtain across the entry door for privacy.

Jay, Not sure what you have but I have 2 doors if you like, the main door and a bug screen door which operates separatly or can be stowed into the main door. The top and bottom have bug screens and the middle foot a sliding perspex screen to access the handle. This screen door is a solid metal framed and hinged structure, it works fine in the task of keeping the bugs out but allowing airflow, but not whilst traveling the bug screen defracts the vision through the door window and makes it very difficult for me to see in the blind spot mirror I have on the door viewed through the door window. The MCD offer is with a variety of fabrics and of course I assume you could have a total shade, but I do not need one as I have a separate electric night shade. I just need to be able to remove the existing bug screen at the top from the door. And have a roll up bug screen which I can pull into place when I stop but leave down when traveling for a clear view out of the window.
So my question is do you have a similar set up but have removed the existing bug screen door and replaced it completely with a Phantom solution? As useful debate for me anyway, thanks for your input.

Retractable door window screen came standard on my 2007 Inspire 360. Have you looked closely at your entry door? It goes up like an old fashioned window blind. Magnetic catches at the bottom.

Revision to last post. The retractable screen is on the screen door, not the entry door as I reported before.

Thanks, Jim. Perhaps that started later than our 51784 '06. But, I will be checking! Brilliant idea as it's hard for me to see great scenery through the screen on our screen door. Mary

So my question is do you have a similar set up but have removed the existing bug screen door and replaced it completely with a Phantom solution? The Phantom Screen replaced the upper screen panel with a pull-down screen. While rolling, it is up and out of the way of the passenger's view. While parked, it is down, keeping the critters out.
The Phantom Screen includes a complete frame which is bolted onto the screen door's upper portion.

OK Jay I understand now,.Thanks for your patience. Do you find that the cassette at the top imposes any restriction on view out? I need the top 12 inches or so to view fully my mirror.

Hi Michael,

I've posted a couple of pictures of the rollup screen on my 2007 Inspire under "Entry Door Rollup Screen". This came installed from the factory. The screen was made by the same folks that made the door, Atwood. Unfortunately they no longer make the screen. The opening that the screen fits into is 25 5/8" wide and 35 1/4" tall. You may be able to find one at a dismantler here in the states.... Just a thought. It works really well!

Hope this helps with some idea's?

Barney

Barney, that is fantastic, what I do not understand is why these were not fitted as standard! Now I have to get the thing sorted, yours looks very professional, so its on the winter list! The pictures are really helpful. Could I trouble you for a couple of the reverse side and the bottom so I have a complete idea to work with. Looking at your door construction the profiles of the frame are more angular than my door so I think I would have to find a complete Inspire door! Assuming it would even fit.

The frame of the Phantom Screen overlays the top frame of the screen door, and the cassette is slightly larger. I'm sure there is some restriction, but it is negligible (IMO), and I don't even notice it.

The bus is in storage and I'm not able to get a photo at present.
