I remember reading posts indicating that removal of a certain 7.5 Amp "Travel Mode" fuse would then allow manual operation of the ride height by using the HWH control panel push buttons. Some of you reported that you have by-passed the fuse with an in-line circuit switch to avoid removal of that fuse. On my coach, I believe that the fuse in question is in the fuse boxes beneath the dash to the left of the steering column. (This location was designed by an expert in human torture).
Question:
To simplify this modification,I am hoping there is a gadget available that replaces a fuse with two leads? Then,I could find a handy spot to mount a simple toggle switch? Then I could use an in-line fuse to protect the circuit. If this gadget is available, what would be the best source? If I have to manufacture it to utilize the prongs on a fuse, what is the best way? Here is what I did: I got an automotive toggle switch (on/off) and mounted it in the dash (just to the left of the steering column). Next, remove the wire that feeds the 7.5 amp fuse and extend it to one wire of the toggle switch. Extend the other switch wire back down to the fuse terminal to re-feed the fuse. Label the 'on' switch position "Ride Height Normal". Label the 'off' switch position "Ride Height Disabled".
On my rig, when the switch is in the 'off' or, 'disabled' position and the step is extended, the step will NOT retract when you start the engine, so make sure the step is retracted before you disable the ride height function and drive away.

Thanks for your input. Your solution is simple and elegant. I am glad you mentioned the step retraction issue as I had not thought about that. I will check it out when I install the switch but I am thinking that my '98 is like your '01. . Your labeling is also a good idea to take the guesswork out of mode of operation at a glance.
