We are recently retired and planing on spending more time on the road. We are looking for suggestions as to which resort park membership is the best. TT was recommended but not sure if we like to quality of the resorts.
We are currently considering ROD also.

We have been TT members for several years, and use them quite a lot. Some of the parks are good, some not. Their coverage so good on the WestCoast, Texas and Florida. TT is owned by Encore, which operates many trailer parks and resorts. Encore offers discounts and promo deals to TT members. Some Encore parks are really nice, some are not.
ROD, RPI and Coast to Coast are organizations of membership parks. One must be a must be a member of an affiliated park to join. RPI is tied in with Encore. ROD is not, but is limited. One of the best sources for resort discounts is Passport America, available at Camping World. Big Rigs Best Bets is a great resource. Happy Trails, David White 06 Intrigue 11993

Paul, you can save a lot of money buying a resell TT membership, google TT membership and you should be able to find many sources. I have seen them advertised on ebay and on several other places. Many are available just for paying the transfer fee from TT, so no need to pay several thousand dollars for a new membership. You can also buy a seasonal, one year membership from TT if you want to test the waters before you become a full blown annual dues member.
If you want to interact with current members to get a greater feel for likes and dislikes, check out Thousand Trails (Outdoor World) -- The Good AND The Bad on Facebook. Lots of pros and cons there and you can join in the discussion with specific questions for specific parks.

Paul, be careful when purchasing a used membership. You can get a good one if you know what you are looking for but you can also get stuck with a bad one. We have been members for 20 yrs and have talked to many people who shoudn't have bought into the membership they did. Feel free to email us if you have any questions.

Don't want to start a debate but I think you have to be very careful when buying a new membership from TT sales people. The salespeople will tell you anything to get you signed up and their prices are super high, in the several thousand dollar range as compared to free with only the transfer fee for basic memberships. So, I think you must be careful and read all the details on a resell membership or a new membership. Most of the risk on a resell membership is due to TT trying their best to make it difficult for the buyer by altering terms of the original membership and trying their best to get the prospective member to buy from a TT salesperson rather than from the member who is trying to unload the membership. There is a very informative TT yahoo group which will help anyone interested in becoming educated on the various memberships available. If I were buying today, I would buy one of the zone memberships to give it a try and visit as many parks in the purchased zone to see how they are run. Many of them would be one visit and done because there are parks that just aren't all that well maintained. I agree with you that proper due diligence is required for the resell membership...and a new membership as well.

We have been a member of TT for about 10 years. You pay X amount per year, mine is $580 + a few fees then we can camp at about 80 different parks year round. There are many different memberships in TT. The one we have you can book 150 days (I think) out and stay for 3 weeks then move to the next campground with no time out and can do it 365 days a year. We also have RPI that one cost $149 a year and cost $10 a night to stay at there parks. A few weeks in will pay for the year, the down side is a lot of the parks are older and a 40' may be harder to get in, wish I had a 36' sometimes. The best way is to buy a used membership for around $750 transfer fees then a years dues.

I agree with Floyd. Western Horizon is another membership park system but the parks are old and not well maintained. Passport America is another option but you have to watch blackout periods. Bottom line I would not buy one of the memberships. Get some solar panels and dry camp on BLM land.

We contacted Chad at Campground Membership Outlet and did purchase a TT-VIP ELITE membership for 1100.00. Don't think we can go wrong at that price. It comes with PRI for one year. Would really like to pick up an ROD to supplement the TT. Just looking for the right one to buy.
Thanks for the info on Passport Amercia. At $44, can't turn that down.

ROD stands for Resorts of Distinction. It is an affiliation of not-public resorts that allow ROD dues paying members certain camping privileges.
In order to buy in to ROD you must first purchase a membership contract with of one of their affiliated parks.
