Hi all,
I've noticed a black line (perfectly straight) has formed on the interior ceiling leading from our bathroom and into our bath sink/shower area. Initially I thought of black mold, but it is strange that it appears to be a perfect line rather than round spots that you may expect to see with mold issues. It looks like someone has snapped a black chalk line on our ceiling....has anyone ever had a similar problem and if so, what has caused it and how do you eliminate the problem? Thanks!
Steve

Mine has done the same thing. I understand that is is oil residue above the ceiling that has been caused by the engine breather tube that emits oil mist laden air. Oily air that is pulled in by the vacuum created as the bus rolls down the road. Apparently the rear cap area was not properly sealed or else the seal has failed allowing the entrance of oily air to accumulate diesel oil above the ceiling panel.
Can't imagine any way to get at it to clean it up. It just gets worse over time.

That was a common problem, CC sealed my cap, after the damage was done, they also paid a Junction City contractor to clean the affected area but it didn't remove it. So, I have just lived with it, mine is also visible in the bedroom. As mentioned by others I think it is oil residue drawn into the coach due to the rear cap not being sealed properly. CC rep at Lazy Days sealed the rear cap.

It is dirt coming in through the unsealed back cap. Where you see the dirt is where there is a joint in the wood ceiling. I don't know what to do about stopping it as I have the same thing. I have been in other brand coaches and theirs is doing the same thing

On my 2003 Intrigue there is a foam seal (such as it is) for the rear cap that you can see from under the rear of the motor home. By removing the cover over the upper stop light(in the closet) mine seemed to be clean but I noticed soot around the engine cover that led to finding a cracked manifold. All that fixed I have made a grill out of the rear engine door that has lowered my engine tempature when pulling long grades by ten degrees and that keeps the tempature light off and I am sure lowers the engine compartment pressure. More could be done by a grill in the rear bumper. We always travel with windows closed and some type of fan on to help presure the cab. After all that we love our Country Coach Rex

I've had some success cleaning this with a combination of Spot Shot and Mr. Clean Magic Eraser sponges. It's slow, and tedious, and you'll use up a lot of sponges, but you can minimize the visibilty of the streaks.

We have not had this problem, but if the line is made up of any oily residue you may want to try Lestoil.
Amazon.com: Lestoil Concentrated Heavy Duty Cleaner, 28 Fluid Ounces: Health... (http://www.amazon.com/Lestoil-Concentrated-Heavy-Cleaner-Bottle/dp/B0036B89US/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1390669638&sr=8-2&keywords=lestoil)
I have found it locally at Ace Hardware stores too.
My husband used to race cars, so oily/greasy clothes, fingerprints, etc. were a constant battle until I found Lestoil.

Looking back on this over 2 year correspondence and wondering if anyone is still experiencing this problem of oil residue collecting in the ceiling forming a black line in the ceiling carpet. Has anyone repaired the problem from the upper cap of the engine compartment? If so, I would appreciate details of the repair. Thanks!

Steve, I had this problem with my 2001 Intrigue. While at OMC in Eugene , Jim Cooley connected me with a Hispanic gentleman who cleaned my entire ceiling and did a great job of getting rid of the black streak that ran the length of the Galley slide and the black outlines around all ceiling light fixtures and vents. I thought the cost was reasonable. ( I think $300 ) It was an all day job. He would not disclose what the mix of the cleaner was, but guaranteed it would not affect the adhesive or damage the carpet. This was done in October 2012 and the black streaks have not reappeared. I was totally satisfied, and would certainly recommend checking with OMC if you are in the area!!

Thank you. I will keep this info and when in the area I can look up Jim and get connected with the Hispanic gentleman. Did you do any maintenance or repair to the rear cap to prevent reoccurrence?

Every time I visit Eugene I always have Frank do my Carpets. He's a fun guy and if you speak a little Spanish you'll find not only is he a gentleman, but has a great sense of humor. TWI 2004 Intrigue 11731.

No Steve, I did not have anything else done when the ceiling was cleaned, but subsequently had the exhaust manifold replaced due to a crack and exhaust piping replaced which had rusted out, that may have been the cause of the marks in the ceiling areas.
