I am curious how many of you who travel a lot use a portable water softener. If you do, which do you recommend for overall convenience, durability?

Thanks. That is the one I am seeing most of.
Do you use the smaller one (8000) or what they call the Double Charge?

Smaller one. I usually can run around 250-300 gallons water.

I bought an on-the-go water softener from camping world and have been quoite happy with it. I did a pretty trick installation so all I have to do when I pull into a park is connected my water hose to the park spigot and the softener is immediately inline. I also have a simple set of connectors to perform the normal regular back flushing and using the air hose to blow it out which is the best bet before adding more salt. You can see my installation here
