We have a 2003 Allure, 20,070 miles with an ISL 370 Cummins flashed to 400. We are traveling in Florida and the engine has started to cough or hiccup on hard pulls every now and then. I can see a drop in RPM from 1700 to 1600 when this happens. Any idea's on what wood cause this to happen? We have an appointment next week for a annual service at the Jacksonville Cummins coach care center but will need to drive until then.

Each year or 18,000 miles whichever comes first. We change the fuel filter the same time we have the oil changed. We do carry extra fuel filter because we have gotten bad fuel and had to pull over right away and change the filter along side the road.

Check the fuel filters for water contamination then replace anyway and check your engine oil for thinning do to diesel cross contamination from worn out fuel pump. Other wise leave it to the experts. You may have a bad lift pump, look for signs of leaks on the ground or just bad fuel. TWI 2004 Intrigue. 11731

I agree! Fuel filters first! I really dislike breakdowns! I am probably a fanatic ! I normally change out my fuel filters every time I change my oil. If you figure how many gallons goes through those canisters fill-up to fill-up at an average of maybe 7 or 8 miles to the gallon...........You are talking about a lot of gallons. Thanks for all of the suggestions. I have joined the Cummins Power Club and we are now camped about 45 miles from Cummins Power South in Jacksonville. They will change the 2 fuel filters when they change the oil and lube the chassis. We just purchased this coach and this is all new to us as we had a gas motor home before. Looking at the fuel filters they have 8 - 2010 written on them in magic marker. That would put them with about 5000 miles on them. How long should they last? We are going to get a complete filter set to carry with us. Does anyone carry extra belts with them? Should I get the cooling system flushed when I have it in for service being the unit is now over 10 years old. BVL 2003 Allure First Avenue 36'

It should be flushed every 4 years or so many hours of operation. The chemistry should be checked at least once a year and the appropriate amount of additive added if you are using Cummins Complete that is blue in color. If you have the red stuff, Organic acid treatment, then there is a charge filter you add after 4 years and then you drive the coach until the coach fails its annual chemistry test. I'm currently on my 3rd year of using the red stuff. There is a similar regime for the Allison transmission, depending on whether you are using the inferior Dexron or the Synthetic Transynd. With testing I went 7 years on the transynd until the radiator failed.

I replace fuel filters annually which is about 15,000 miles for me. Miles is the key element though, not time.
There are few jobs easier than changing fuel filters.

At 4 years old your fuel may well have a water problem. Those filters are too old and need to be changed.

Thanks to all who responded to my request. It ended up being the fuel lift pump was leaking and sucking in air.
They had to replace the pump and $800.00 later we are back on the road and the engine seems to be running fine.
