We have an older 1998 Allure with Cummins 8.3 and I have been fighting air leaks from day 1. Now 3 years into ownership and think I have them beat.
The question is how much air do you use when in motion? I have no leaks when not under way. Replaced all ride height valaves, new dryer, new signal lines, and new governor. No leaks sitting still. When in motion it purges every 5 minutes or so. So does bad roads and wind make the system always adjust using tons of air? I can hear it purge when my window is open. I put another gauge on the air tank that is not dashboard monitored and could not see any big fluctuations.
Thanks for any input

Nate,

Every 5 min is a normal purge cycle. It called a purge valve because it is meant to purge the air system of any moisture on an ongoing basis. Not much air escapes with each purge. if it purged every 30 second to 1 minute then I would say you have a problem, probably an air leak. it is also a problem if it doesn't purge at all or is a long time between purges. The cycle is related to the running of the compressor.

Mine is hissing more than usual and is purging about every 30 seconds. Currently in Biloxi, MS. I am leaving tomorrow for Baton Rouge for a few days then to San Diego. Can anyone recommend a shop along the way that you have had a good experience with. I have recently installed a new purge valve and air dryer. The hissing is coming from up front. What are the likely culprits? Thank you for your help,

Tim
