Hi - Just wanted to see when folks were changing their oil in the Cummins ISL400 engine. I've been using Shell Rotella T 15w-50 synthetic 24 Qts in the engine. Presently have about 13K on the oil change. I've been told 20K is about nominal but seem like a long interval to me.
Would appreciate any input on this. Many thanks and safe travels.

Cummins rep told us 12 months or 18,000 miles whichever comes first. That's what we've been doing. We use Speedco. They use Rotella and Fleetguard filters. We also joined the Cummins Power Club and get 10% off filters if we buy them there.

The manual says 15,000 miles or one year which ever comes first. There is an on going debate on the value of synthetic oil in our motor homes. The main reason to change oil is pollution from engine combustion and to get rid of engine wear particles, that can compound the wear. So using synthetic oil isn't going to help there. One thing I've noted with my ISL 400 is if I use Valvoline, I gain 5 to 10 lbs of oil pressure under all conditions and after pulling hard grades and allowing the engine to cool down its better for my jitters if I see 20 lbs of pressure at 650 rpm idle than less than 10 with Rotella, or Penzoil.
Chris is no longer with CC! He's been living in Roseburg and commuting to Junction city, staying with relatives. He's with Kamping Korner now in Roseburg, OR. in a much more relaxed atmosphere, where he can be home with the family full time. If ever I'm in the neighborhood and need help he says make sure to stop by. I will. Its a big loss for the CC service department.

I plan to continue what I've always done and that is change the oil once annually. I used Rotella when I did the changes myself on my CAT in my previous DP. Now that I have the Cummins, I am using my local Cummins Coach Care shop and I think they use Valvoline. I retire in one month and we plan to travel more so if my mileage gets to 15K before the anniversary, I will change it then.
