We have given our neigbor our motorhome for apprioximately three to four months. Susan is at the City of Hope in Los Angeles for a bone Marrow Transplant. Our friends live in San Diego. The motorhome has served as a home for her husband David while Susan has been in the hospital. In one week Susan will be released from the hospital and will live in the motorhome and will go to the hospital on a daily basis. Her imune system is almost zero, therefore the motorhome has to be as sterile as possible.
Has anyone had to go thru this type of situation, and may be able to offer some advice on what to do to make the motorhome as sterile as possible. Is a company that maybe hired to do this type of work ?

you could try Prudential Overall Supply in Chula Vista - they do cleanrooms, etc., and they might be able to help....

Stan,
I have some experience with Marrow Transplants and my positive thoughts are with your friend.
The hospital will give her instructions and should not release her until the counts are at a certain level and she will probably be advised to wear a mask upon leaving the hospital or while in public.
Remove from the coach any live plants, veggies, and flowers.

Recommend thoroughly spraying the sinks and toilet with a good bleach-based cleaner. Wipe every surface with a bleach solution. Wear rubber gloves to preserve your skin. This should be done every day. Replace the ac filters. Best wishes. David W 06 Intrigue 11993

I know your friends appreciate the help you are giving them by letting them use your coach. I have some experience with immune suppression issues due to having a kidney transplant. First, I don't think the docs will release her outside of the hospital unless they think it is safe. You will not be able to replicate the clean conditions of the hospital isolation areas in a motorhome, hotel room or house. You can wipe down suitable surface areas with bleach. That's about it. I would also advise that she only drink bottled water. That will eliminate any microbiological issues relating to the coach water system.

Many transplant centers have a "clean room" apartments located on campus or nearby where transplant patients stay for up to three months. However, here at the University of Arizona Cancer Center they have a team that comes to your home and converts it into a "clean home".
Perhaps the LA Center has such a team? It would be an interesting challenge for them to try to convert a Country Coach into a clean RV but I am sure they would be up to the task.
Keep us informed. Bone Marrow Transplants are no walk in the park even though CBS tried to make Robin Robert's experience sound like an easy process on the front end. However, the months after the transplant told the real story of living with no immunity.
My thoughts and prayers are with your neighbor.
