i have a 2002 Allure. It has the smart wheel.
The carpet got replaced inside. During doing this on the drive home I noticed the cruise and the exhaust brake are not working.
I have checked the fuses outside they were good, I found a couple of in line fuses under the dash cover they were also good. I have looked all over under there trying to find a loose wire or something amiss. I looked at the accelerator wiring it looks like it is connected well, the brake pedal didn't look like it had any wiring above the floorboard area.
I assume something got pulled loose under the drivers seat area but can't find anything obvious to me.
Anybody have an idea of where to look that might involve those two controls and the wiring under the drivers area? Thanks Randy

Could be the Smart Wheel control board. It happened to me. Do your wipers work?

Could also be the ground wire on the back of the exhaust brake rocker switch (near the transmission control panel). On mine, the ground wire was daisy chained to other controls and had pulled loose. That disabled the exhaust brake and who knows what else.

I called Kevin, he had me call his brother in law, Butch Butch had me chase down and look at some things. Butch also mentioned that the smart wheel cruise and exhaust brake only share an engine ground and that is the problem. It is probably a ground problem as Tom mentioned, I wish I had found a loose wire in that area under the exhaust brake.
There is a ground wire I953 according to the Country Coach book, it is from battery negative and goes to service brakes, diagnostic barrel switch(electronic ground), throttle idle switch and brake switch. I am just not sure if this is some kind of computer generated ground or just a simple ground from the battery or if there is any difference between the two. I would hate to try grounding the I953 wire to the battery ground and goof up the computer somehow.
I will look some more for a loose wire but Butch also mentioned that ground might come from the engine computer and the computer needs to be reset by Cummins.
Also the horn and wiper controls on the smart wheel work.

I had the same problem. Finally solved it by simply unplugging the "smart wheel" modules under the dash then replugging them. I guess you could call it "rebooting" the system. Don't know why but it worked.

Just a FYI update. I ran a new ground to the exhaust brake switch and that fixed it and the cruise control. I never could find where the original ground wire was damaged.
