We will be heading to JC soon coming from Boise to Bend. Looks like I have two options from Bend to JC, one taking us to Eugene and the other a bit more north to I5. Which is the better option?

I would take the route to Eugene, take the exit to the Beltway west and then on into Junction City.

From Bend take US 20 to Oregon 126 to Springfield to I-5 North to Belt Line Hwy to Ore 99W to Junction City.
Do not take Ore 242. Posted not recommended.
Hope this helps.

Well, Santiam Pass through Sisters is a great route in a sports car, but my choice would be to take Eugene in our Coach plus it gets you closer to JC.. Just head south out of Bend on 97 then across on 58 and you will enjoy the scenery. Larry 2003 CC Magna 42 w/JeepGC Toad

I just came up from Junction City and am just west of Sisters. Definitely take 20 out of Bend and then 126 to Springfield/Eugene and on the Beltline to 99 than north to JC. Once you hit I5, go north one exit to 195B and this is the Beltline west. I've taken all ways to make the trip and this is by far the most "coach friendly"? And, the MacKenzie River is beautiful along the drive!
Enjoy.

Warning, do not take 20 out of Boise west or east in-between Bend or Boise. There is a stretch of about 30 miles road construction with tons of loose gravel. Cost me a windshield and numerous chips from other vehicles. This is as of 7/01/2014 would find alternate route.

Donnie,
Can you be more specific on location? We will be departing Bend for Boise in a few days. Where is the construction relative to Burns.

Hey Lyle,
Sorry about that the 20 is kinda long. The construction is in-between Bend and Brothers. They resurfaced both side of the road and rocks were flying everywhere. Currently staying at Bend/Sisters Resort and talked to a fellow last night. He stated that they came wear from Boise on the 26 and it was fine. Could not believe the damage to our rig and tow vehicle. Most states complete on side and then the other, never saw anything like it before. Construction equipment is or was still working.

Donnie,
Thanks a lot. That helps our planning. I had the same thing happen in Texas on the 10. Damage was awful. They used 3/4 inch rocks instead of pea gravel. It was a bitch.

OK, to make sure I am following this, route 20 from Ontario to Bend is OK? We will be leaving Caldwell, ID on Sunday heading to Bend.

Hey Gary,
Negative, once you leave Ontario and stay on the 20 about 30 to 40 miles before Bend you will run into the construction zone. They might be done by then, however I still would not take my coach on that route for awhile. I am currently at Kevin Waite's getting oil change ect. He also helped me in finding a windshield to replace the drivers side which got several large chips from the work zone.

Donnie, thanks for the info. I also will be having Kevin do several things for me when we get to JC.
I checked Tripchek on Oregon's DOT website and they say the road work on 20 will cease the afternoon of 7/3 (today) and resume on 7/6. We will be traveling thru this Sunday. I also checked route 26 and their DOT says there is similar resurfacing being done on that route. So, it seems it can't be avoided.
