Does a 2007 CC Inspire have an adjustment screw on the steering box for free play?

Wayne,

It does but that is the last thing I would mess with. You might want to check the ball joints on each end of the steering links, there are 4 of them. Grab the ball joint with your hand having a hold of both the joint and the steering arm. Have someone move the steering wheel back and forth about 1 to 2 inches each way. If there is play there you should be able to feel it in your hand. Also check the mounting bolts of the steering box to make sure they are tight. They are huge and I believe on top of the box. I've heard of some models of CC had a problem with the structure that the steering box is attached to with broken welds. I don't remember which models had this problem.

Also there is a 90 degree gear box at the bottom of the steering column. You can get easy access if you open then generator slide and then remove the large access door with the 4 large allen screws on the drivers side. Need to make sure the mounting bolts are tight. There's also two universal joints that need to be checked the same way as the ball joints.

If all that checks good you might look at the steering box adjustment. Make sure and keep track of the changes so you can put it back where is was if it doesn't help with your problem.

How many miles do you have on the coach? We have about 75,000 and have no problem with the steering.

Good luck,
Barney

Thanks Barney, have checked all that stuff but the slack is in the steering box. Can't find an adjustment screw.

Is it a Sheppard or TRW steering box? If it is Sheppard there may be no adjustment screw. You'll have to have it sent out to be rebuilt. I can find you the company that does a good job with that in my records if you need it. Some have reported they looked up the specs and something like (IIRC) 3" of play is considered within specs if you can believe it. I may be wrong, but I suspect MANY people throw thousands of dollars replacing numerous other parts and tires while never realizing where the problem really lies.
If you have a TRW you should be able to find the adjustment and it appears, based on my reading, to the be the unit to have (actually, there are a couple of sizes).

Good luck and I'll be crossing my fingers for you.
