Hi All,
We are brand new to the RV world.. Purchased a 2005 CC Allure 37 ft Sunset Bay last April. Left last sunday for first real trip.. About 150 miles from home on I 10 the drag link on our Jeep Cherokee snapped in half and we limped to an Exxon station and called AAA for a tow to Deming, NM. We dropped off the Jeep and deceided to press on to Santa Fe with a toad.. Got far on I 25 near our stop at Santa Fe Skies RV Park. About a half mile from exit 276 on I 25 the engine quit and we rolled to a stop on the shoulder of the highway. It was about 8 pm at this point. Engine would not turn over???? called Good Sam roadside asst. Could not find a tow truck anywhere to tow us 3 miles to a truck repair shop. We sat along I 25 for 8 hours.. Finally I reached a 24 hour mechanic and he came out to look and the RV. He thought it was a wiring issue in the engine and when he climbed under to look, he came back out and said this is going to have to be towed. The transmission had broken loose from the engine and was separating.. He called a towing company who came and at 2 am towed me by a chain the 3 miles to the repair shop... got to sleep at 4 am in the RV. Not a good day for a first RV trip. Left the RV in Santa Fe and got a ride back to Tucson yesterday night. Waiting to hear about the damage and information from Easy Care warrenty Company.. Will update after I hear about Jeep and RV..

So sorry for your trouble. Hope you get fixed up soonest. Can't believe the transmission separated from the engine. Sounds like someone worked on it and didn't put it together right. I have never heard of this happening. Please keep us informed about what the shop finds out.

I agree with Per: Transmissions don't just separate from engines in these coaches. Someone must have taken things apart and not put them together properly. I would get your coach to Rocky Mountain Cummins in Albuquerque. I am not aware of anyone in Santa Fe who can handle something like this properly.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I am back in Tucson and the coach is with Hal Burns Trunk and RV repair. They have been in business for 30 years and appear to be pretty competent. It appears the casting where the engine is bolted to the tranny actually cracked and came apart. some of the bolts may still be there but the metal broke around them. I still do not know for sure until the work is started. Waiting to hear via phone call...

That makes more sense than the trans and engine "just" seperating unless work had just been done and done poorly. Still sucks especially on maiden voyage, good thing you have the extended warrenty.

Once again, from experience, make SURE the repair shop contacts and gets an OK from Easy Care BEFORE they do any repair work! D Jean

It appears that the Allison case actually cracked all around the Bell housing leaving the bolts intact but not holding anything????

I would call Allison and see what they have to say about what could cause this. Please let us know. Its sounds highly unusual. This is awful for you.

That just doesn't sound like any kind of normal occurrence. That sounds like metal fatigue. And there must have been a tremendous amount of vibration to cause that. Unbalanced drive shaft, maybe?

Maybe a broken motor or transmission mount. Maybe some frame structure missing/broken causing the engine/transmission to become a structural member.

I am sure that all of the rv mounts will be looked at.. There was no vibration noticed from inside the coach like you would feel from a out of balance drive shaft. The engine or transmission has never been out of the coach since new.
