Title: Avionics Entry Door

My entry door doesn't line up any more. It has dropped enough that I am afraid it may quit closing. Someone used snap rings to shore theirs up but I tried all I could but none would work. Has anyone had this problem and if so what did you do to fix it? Or do you know who may be able to help me?

Have you tried Kevin Waite. He knows most everything about the CC.

Dennis. I have a 06 intrigue. 12047 I have not had any problems with my Door other than the door stop can be damaged in a high wind and the hinge gets stressed Do you think The hinge is damaged? Bob

I know the door stop has been replaced with the heavy duty one. I think the hinge has probably been damaged. I don't know if it can be repaired because of parts not available because of Avionics being out of business.

Dennis, Robert,

I also have the Avionics door and it still works well except for a crunching, cracking kind of racket every time it opens or closes. It is very loud. I have taken the whole thing apart to examine the spring loaded stop mechanisim and oiled or greased everything in sight but to no avail. I cannot figure out where the sound is coming from but it is pervasive. Hopefully someone will come up with a lead.

Lyle,

When my door was crunching and cracking every time I opened it, or the wind caused it to open, Kevin Waite removed and re-installed that center curved pin and the sound it gone.
You can purchase an assembly from him and return the old one. Just letting U know.

Dave,

Please tell me more about that "curved pin". Where is it? Behind the deco panel? Or is it near the hinge points. I want to look at it.
Thanks,

Lyle,

I don't think you can miss it... it's on the hinged side of the door. It has 2 large screws that holds it to the frame and the curved part disappears inside the door. It should be about center door. Kevin said that this curved rod and spring mechanism, just wear out over time from opening and closing the door.
I believe it is called a "Door Check".. hopefully this link works
https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/Country-Coach-Owners/search/photos?query=door%20check (https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/Country-Coach-Owners/search/photos?query=door%20check)

In the first picture you can see 2 bars from the door frame that go inside the door. this is what Kevin changed. I believe it was the top bar and inside mechanism. Once he changed that, all the crunching, banging and popping was gone. Hope this helps.

Lyle, I ordered the "Door Check"? from Kevin but it does not fit our coaches. The Allure door is not the same as ours. I have had the same sound you are having and spraying dry lubricant into the spring mechanism works for a while. I still get a "popping"? sound anytime I open or close the door.

Dave,

Thank you so much. You went the extra mile by sending photos of your "door check". However, we have different doors so mine has no such part. Our door was made by Avionics who is out of business. So far we have not found the cause or a cure.

Lyle you might look for something that performs the same function, which is door opens smoothly and stops before damaging anything.

Dave, Again thanks for the pics. Your post showed two exterior pictures but there was a third by Herb Strandberg dated Oct 1, 2009 that showed the interior of the door and how the door limit is attached. I would like to have a copy of that photo but my printer will not print a picture from the photos section. Don't know why. If you are Herb could email the photo as an attachment I could maybe print it that way. My idea is to remove the existing spring system and replace it with what is shown in the photos. It might take a little modification but I think it might work. I have asked Kevin's opinion but haven't heard back yet.

After much searching I found the pictures you are referring to.. but I was also unable to to save the pictures to print. I could get the link but not the pictures. Maybe Herb has the pictures saved on his computer and can just send you one. Good Luck

Lyle,

That is too bad. It sounds like you have done everything in trying to cure the problem. Just a question... have you taken your door panel off and watch as the door opens to see if you can tell what is causing that sound?
Just an idea... this place deals in salvaged RV. I do not know the difference between coaches, doors and things, But I can not believe that made these door check or what ever is causing the noise for just CC. Maybe in you research, they made that part for different brand name and you can find one here. In fact here is a 2003 Intrigue that might have the same door.

And hopefully it would not have the same problems you have.

They also have a 2004 Intrigue.. with a good looking entry door (undamaged).

Dave, yes I have done the look-see thing but still cannot isolate the noise by observation. I do think, however, it is the spring assembly since the character of the sound suggests that. Also, thanks for the link but I have already talked to them. They want $1800 for the door and won't part out the guts. A lot of bucks to stop a noise.

Lyle. That snapping sound comes from the pin attachment to the body frame Watch that area as the door is opened all the way. That was my Problem on 06 intrigue 12047. Bob

I haven't followed this thread, however if you are looking for a door check, the assembly was made by GM. I am sorry I don't know the year or model, but it was used on a van sliding door.

John Beach and Robertbobzich,

If you guys could look at the picture in the files section called 05 Intrigue entry door stop (It should be the first file that comes up) and tell me if that is the item you both are referring to it would be much appreciated. There are two different door stops and some folks don't know that so even though I am getting terrific response from the group I can't always tell which door stop they are referring to. The one in the files section is the one I am wrestling with. Many thanks.

That is not the door check I referred to. The item I am referring to is in the photo section submitted by Herb on 10/1/09, search, Door Check. There are 2 photos, 1 shows the end view of the rectangular assembly, which is approximately 6" long, 2" high, 1" wide.
