Hi Scott,
Nice write-up on your maintenance issue. The question that I have is; Where, and how much, to obtain the manuals that you mentioned?

Jim - Thanks. You can get this stuff from Cummins. Here's a link: http://www.cumminsonanstore.com/store/search.asp?C=Y&KEYWORD=Manuals%20-%20Operator,%20Parts,%20Installation%20and%20Service (http://www.cumminsonanstore.com/store/search.asp?C=Y&KEYWORD=Manuals%20-%20Operator,%20Parts,%20Installation%20and%20Service) Just make sure you order the correct documentation for your unit. Not sure you'll need that package unless you're planning on some of the deeper repairs. Most any authorized dealers should be helpful with looking up part numbers and providing some information on fault codes.
That said, I'll update my article with this reference.

Scott...........Which of the several manuals listed on your Cummins/Onan site link would be the most helpful for doing the repair that you've documented so well??
Thanks, Dave Trotter 01 Intrigue 11215

Dave - I'd say the Service and Parts manuals would provide the most helpful information. The Service Manual provides helpful repair procedures, fault code explanations and testing instructions. It documents how to remove parts/assemblies too. This information will help narrow down problems and, in favorable circumstances, allow you to determine exactly where the problem is. The Parts Manual simply shows diagrams of all the available parts with annotations and a cross reference to the Onan part number(s). This is helpful when ordering replacement parts. It also is helpful when trying to locate physically within the generator where parts are. Be advised that some part numbers have been superseded with newer numbers. I ran into this when ordering a new coolant expansion tank. The parts shop was able to come up with the new number for Cummins. In other words, got the right parts. Good luck.
