On a trip to Texas Big Bend country the 2nd day of driving I get a slight surge not all the time but enough to know something is wrong my speed is 65 and RPM is 1450 then it feels like the coach slows down for one second or less and the GPS speed drops to 64 and the RPM jumps to 1650 then the RPM drops back to 1450 and speed goes back to 65 it happens with cruise off or on and if I slow down to 1200 RPM it stills jumps to 1650 RPM but the speed only drops one MPH it will do that about 4 or 5 times then might go for an hour then do it again the rig is a 2008 Intrigue with a 525 cat and an allison 4060 trans

Sounds like your radiator fan controller cycling on and off, that about a 25 HP change.

Recently had a coach doing something similar. When I checked the transmission codes I found the engine speed code. The wiring harness to it was pulled to tight. Repositioned the wiring cleared the code and it has been okay since. If you check your trans codes and get this code it might be worth checking wiring and plug. The speed sensors rarely fail.
The engine speed sensor is located on the bell housing about half way up.
To check the codes press the up and down arrows twice, the first press goes to oil level check then to diagnostics. Have a pen and paper ready to write them down. Then look them up at this link if you do not have a code sheet.

Your 2008 Intrigue with a Cat Engine may have a CAT transmission rather than the Allison.

It sounds like the torque converter is dropping out of lockup.
A couple of things come to mind - does it throw an ABS light at all?
We had a similar situation with our Foretravel in recent months. Coincidentally it would cause an ABS light which blink-coded to no signal on one of our ABS sensors, although it would "cure" itself after a stop since the ABS resets. Another FT owner had previously reported similar transmission "hunting" behavior (torque converter dropout) which was diagnosed by a shop as a bad ABS sensor. Based on their experience, we replaced the questionable ABS sensor (fortunately on our tag axle, an easy swap-out) and have not had a recurrence since.
