My Dash air hasn't been very cold lately so I tried servicing it with 134a freon that I bought at Walmart with gage.  The initial pressure reading was below 10 psi at 75* ambient.  The gage says I should see between 35-45*. I put in one 12oz can of leak stop freon and several 12oz cans of 134a freon. When the gage got up to about 35 psi,  the compressor clutch would intermittently stop and start and would sometimes make a screeching noise like metal on metal for a couple of seconds or so, while turning slow, then turn off/on, for a few times,  then start turning at regular speed. Then start this process all over again.  I thought maybe there was too much pressure or something, (inaccurate gage?) so I released the pressure down to 25 psi and the compressor clutch stopped doing this and the dash air is now cold.  Does anyone know if too much pressure can cause the compressor to do this?  Thanks for any suggestions.

Larry, I need to add freon to my 07 Intrigue dash AC. Where do you add it?

Lee you add the freon at the compressor on the low pressure side.  It can be identified by the port that has the blue plastic cap on it.  The red cap is the high pressure side, put the low pressure hose connector won't fit it.

Thanks, just what I need. Sounds like WalMart will have everything I need -  12 oz can of leak stop freon and several 12oz cans of 134a freon. 134a freon and gage.

Yes?

Lee

On my 08 Magna there are 2 hoses just below the coolant tank. They are about an inch in diameter with ports on both. 1 has a red cap the other  black. They are easy to get to and that it where you add Freon on my coach.
If you have to add several cans of Freon there is probably too much air in the system.
On my coach the evaporator was leaking and I had it replaced.

It's interesting reading about adding freon to systems by people with little or some experience. High pressure lines, high pressure cans, not familiar with readings when things are changing, guess on a solution,  engine running and no training.

What could go wrong ?

Can you be clear, should the engine be running when you add the Freon?

Lee, engine should be running at high idle.  Dash air should be set to max A/C with fan on highest setting. Don't invert the can as that allows liquid into the compressor which is not good.
