Magna needs new batteries 2002 dealer installed interstate 7 months ago 8D wet today they are gone. Reading previous post totally confused. What to go back with is question sealed wet or spend the money and go gel. I have the Cat c-12 engine. someone suggested go with 4 12 volt batteries instead of 2 8-D. I am in Branson Missouri thanks for your input.

Carl Your not the first to have problems with Interstate batteries. I just installed (4) type 31 wet sealed Deka batteries in my 08 Magna, ISX Cummins, starts great. I have AGM in the house batteries, but do not see the need for AGM in the starting.

Carl, following up on Steve's comment I used to live in Branson. Bought my new Dekas in Springfield. I can give you the contact if you're interested. Good price too.

Sorry to hear about the battery problem. I bought 2 8D DEKAs from Southern Missouri Battery (417 865-8843) on Kearney Ave. in Oct. 2013. They may have to order them in. They will take your old ones. Working just fine as I end year 2. Back then I paid $225 each.
Good luck!

For one of the few times, glad I only have the ISL - as it needs only on 8D for chassis duty:)!
5 + years ago, another board member recommended I look into the CAT Maintenance Free. I did, and at the time, it had the highest CCA of any other battery I could find.
Deka's would take good care of you too, but you might also want to compare the spec's and price with the CAT 8D Maintenance Free battery. (Suspect the CAT would be more expensive, but it might be the most cost effective over the long haul, as they're supposed to have a bit longer life to them.) And of course, it's nice to have a CAT starting a Cummins:)!
Best of luck to you,
Smitty

I believe something else may be wrong here, batteries normally last longer than that. I have interstate batteries and the same engine. Maybe your trickle charger isn't working (check the fuse). My last set of batteries lasted over 6 yrs. Current set is going on 2yrs. All I do is check the water and clean the cables from time to time.

My understanding is when you are on 50amp the house batteries are charged and when they are fully charged then the charger charges the chassis batteries. Is this telling me the charger is working? I have put another charger on chassis batteries and they charge but as soon as I turn engine over they drop to 6 volts. Am I missing something here. Thanks

I have an Interstate 8D starting battery that was installed in 2006, so 9 years old. My coach is always plugged in, so the onboard charger and echo charger keeps the battery constantly charged. Takes little water.

My advance auto parts 8d died after 4 years. Went with 2 "31" from advance auto. Have full 3 year warranty. Same CCA.

Something isn't right, they should last far longer than that. My last 8D battery from Sam's club lasted almost ten years and I replaced it with another Sam's club battery, I have solar panels so the batteries stay charged and I rarely have had to add battery water. Maybe you have an overcharging problem which is frying the batteries.

Totally agree but have not had to add water. House batteries are good and they are charged from same echo charge from my understanding.

Either a bad connection or a bad battery. Most likely a bad battery.

Interstate agreed to warranty batteries which is 6 months out of warranty. Guess I will try interstate one more time. We have had prevost busses in past and always lifeline or Deka. Good experience with them. Thanks cc for all responses.
