Friends, any ideas you have I'd appreciate on the following problems with my ONAN 8000 W. Generator as described below:
Tuesday 12-16
1. Start ONAN, bring on 1 Heat Pump, wait a couple of minutes, bring on 2nd Heat Pump, ONAN runs OK for about 12 minutes and shuts down.
Blink Code Fault shows Code 25: Engine Above Speed Target Fault - "Govenor unable to regulate to target speed" - Corrective Action - Take to ONAN dealer
2. Re-Start ONAN, bring on 1 Heat Pump, wait a couple of minutes, bring on 2nd Heat Pump, waite a couple of minutes bring on Front TV, wait, then bring on Microwave, ONAN runs OK for 45 minutes, so I turn off Microwave and TV, leave ONAN running with Heat Pumps running and start Engine to bring coach back into barn as I pull into barn ONAN shuts down.
Blink Code Fault shows Code 14: Inverter Over Frequency Fault - "Controller not able to reguate to rated frequency" Corrective Action: Reduce number of of connected appliances , especially when air conditioners and battery chargers are running
Called Butch Williams he said it's a result of my starting coach and the 160 Amp alternator kicking in with a big surge as I only had the 2 heat pumps running when I started the coach.
Wednesday 12-17
1. Start ONAN, bring on 1 Heat Pump, wait a couple minutes, bring on 2nd Heat Pump, wait, turn on Front TV, wait, Turn on Microwave for 2 minutes only, then Turn on Front TV, turn on Refrig ONAN shows Volt Meter in coach show no less than 115V. ONAN runs OK for 35 minutes and Shuts Down
Blink Code Fault shows Code 38: Overcurrent Fault - "Too many loads connected" Corrective Action: Reduce the number of appliances running at the same time, especially those with high motor starting loads such as air conditioners. Start up with no load and let the genset run for five minutes to down the inverter.
Note: the Onan breaker never tripped with any of the above Faults

Hi Mike,
Without going through my troubleshooting nightmare and frustration, I had the same issue with my 8000 watt Onan. I even spent a considerable sum of money purchasing and installing a new inverter/controller for the generator. (which I did not need) I assume you have recent fuel lines? If so, my cure was the replacement of the fuel pump, and while at it I did the fuel filter. Once I did that, all the shut downs and codes went away. I do not throw parts at something to fix it, so I do my research and troubleshooting, that is why my problem pointed to the inverter/controller with the codes you have.(I also had SOME help from Onan) However, if you have a fuel delivery problem, and you add/subtract loads, that generator will throw a whole host of codes when it unexpectedly shuts down. If you experience any type of unusual surging, that would pin it down for me on the fuel delivery issue. If you are SURE it's the inverter/controller, I have one.

Fred, sorry I can't figure out how to do an offline reply like we did with the old web format.
In addition to the Fault Codes listed in my original post, further testing which included a 90 minute run with 2 heat pumps, TV and a couple of 2 minute times with Microwave on I had no problems so thought things had worked out.
That same afternoon to make sure, I ran the exact same mode as listed above and the darn thing shut down within 20 minutes. I got 2 new and different Fault Codes, 33 & 36.
I am going to call ONAN and try to talk to a tech, but will probably take coach to Cummins in San Antonio where they have specific ONAN Tech for Motorhomes.
By the way, no I haven't changes fuel supply and return hoses on this unit, I did do it for my Hurricane.
Thanks for your help,
