My coolant filter on my 04 Inpsire with the ISC engine is located next to the oil filter in the same orientation straight up. When you remove the filter the coolant starts pouring out of the engine and does not stop until you get the new filter on. During that time I get drenched. Is there something I'm missing here?

Steve..............Whenever I change coolant or oil filter, I use a metal awl to poke a hole in the bottom of the filter to let the filter drain first. Once it's empty, just screw a metal screw into the punched hole to keep any residual fluid from dripping out as you remove the filter.

On my 99 Allure with the ISC engine, there is a valve above the coolant filter that will shut the coolant flow off. Yours may be different.

One trick I learned was to remove the radiator cap and have a helper hold a shop vac on the tank creating a vacuum. Once there is a vacuum you can open the system and the water will hold unless your helper removes the vacuum.

The valves to shut it off should be on the housing. Very seldom do I see one that doesn't have them.... More than not are frozen open and can be scary trying to shut off, scary because it really sucks when you break it and have to replace the housing!

Most cummins engines have a 90 degree valve close to the filter it is roughly the size of a quarter and should be in the vertical position when open turn it horizonal and that will stop any coolant flow Alan 99 intrigue
