Looking to get away from Florida for the summer and heading to the NC mountains, can anyone suggest a great place to stay and lots to do?

Thanks,
Mike

Cherokee KOA is one of my favorite camp grounds but booking might be an issue. There is a great little KOA between Andrews and Murphy. Haven't stayed there since it became a KOA  but did when it was Valley River and Peace Valley. If you like peace and solitude, this is the place to go. They roll the streets up and put them away at 10 pm ! In this area you are a short  distance From Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge, Cherokee and all the white water rafting you will care to do. If you are into home brew, or the Biltmore House, Asheville (the city of Beers and Q----s) is just over the hill.

We like Sevierville TN.  Lots to do in and around the area - Great Smoky Mountains NP, Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg all nearby. Day trips to Cherokee and Fontana Dam.  We like River Plantation RV Park in Sevierville for home base if you want to be near the touristy stuff.  A bit farther away and quieter is Townsend.  A few RV Parks there.

Also in Dandridge TN is a new park called Anchor Down on Douglas Lake.

Most of the state parks and forest campgrounds in the area don't have hookups.  If you don't need hookups, Cades Cove is a neat place.

If you go to Cherokee, be sure to see the outdoor drama "Unto These Hills" about the Trail of Tears.

You may want to look at Mountain Falls, in Lake Toxaway, NC Ashville is  close as well as a lot of things to do and see in the area.
If you look at it and decide you like it or want more info let me know. I  have 3 lots there.

Tom Johnson Campground in Marion, NC.  Not much for amenities other than a nice cafe', but it's a nice place.  The last time I was there it was $35 a night for full hookups.  From there, you would be within an hour or so drive of just about everything there is to see in the NC mountains.  Chimney Rock, Lake Lure, Black Mountain, Biltmore House, Asheville, Boone, Blowing Rock, Linville Caverns, Blueridge Parkway

Safe travels to you,

Britt

Just curious.....Does anyone own a site you might rent directly to us in a nice campground like Miyaka River RV Resort near Port Charlotte FL? If so, please give me a way to contact you.

We are currently staying (this week) just outside of Clayton, Ga  on the N.c border--at River Vista Mountain village.. It is simply Amazing.. The park is part ownership and can be rented as well. the sites are fantastic and the amenities are Awesome... It is one of the BEST rv parks we have found and  the management is great.
We did drive over to Lake Toxaway to Mountain view and it is on a scale of 1-10 , it is a 12.... Beautiful beautiful place However, there is not as many amenities. All of the people we have met here have been so pleasant. Indoor heated pool Adults only, huge outdoor pool, meeting places, outside fire places and places to gather and meet people. Level sites and the town of Rabun Gap and Clayton just 2 miles away. Gorgeous mountain views too.

It may be too late.. but another place to check out is The Park at eagles nest.. It's brand new... not a lot of amenities.. but you are literally at 4,000 on top of the mountains.. views are spectacular.
