We removed our screen door. It is a difficult design with the angled top  and hinge points that don't carry the top of the door. And for the same reason  we had to replace the hinge with a custom made replacement.

Charles.........I re-did my upper screen by totally removing it. I then bought some screen frame, cut it to fit the, now open, upper half of the screen door"‹. Painted it satin black to match the rest of the door frame. Installed screening in it and now have a removeable upper screen section that is removed while travelling and put in place once we're parked. It comes in and out in under 15 seconds and when it's in place, looks like it was manufactured to work that way. We just lay it on the bed while we're underway. Wife loves it and so do I.

Dave,  Did you buy screen frame material with an overlapping flange? Did you buy it at a glass shop? Any clearance/fit problems?  I assume that you used plastic screen clips to hold the frame in place while parked. Right? Daron Hairabedian, 98 Allure 30226

Daron

I got the frame and corner fittings online. No fit problems. I 'steel-wooled' the surface of the frame and re-painted with satin black. It matches the existing door frame so perfectly that it appears part of the original. The little propeller style black plastic clips hold it nicely in place. The only place the frame  needed to be altered was a small cut out of the edge of the frame to fit around the upper screen door hinge.
Here is a link showing the profile that I used:

Hope this helps.

Dave,

Thanks for the detailed info. I will purchase material and follow your instructions when we get to our home base.
This is a very creative, simple solution to a universal problem for convenience...... and safety! Daron
