Our entry door on 05' Magna 6387, is more frequently becoming very difficult to open, either from outside or inside. Son in law had to climb out window and open from the outside the other day. No sign of binding or metal scraping on the frame, so apparently it is in the latching mechanism. Pull the handle from out/inside and the door does not move, test the latch while open seems to function normal, Any Ideas???? Thanks, Rob

We have had fun with our door handle on our 04 Allure. Once I had to climb in the driver's side window, to open it from the inside.

We found that a "c" clam had fallen off, after all of the slamming of the door, and this caused the latch/lock combo to have problems. It was never the deadbolt, it alway worked well. It was the lock with the handle it self, that caused our problem.

Sam door, we had two years of what we call the 'jaws lock' popping loose while driving. So much so , that we actually attached a strap from the bottom of the passenger seat, to the door handle, as a safety guard. I was so fed up with it after 5 month of travel to Alaska in 2014, that I had our dealer order a new handle mechanism. I have not installed it yet, as one of the tech's at this dealer (Temecula Valery RV), worked with the exiting door and got it so that it would not pop unlatched while driving. (Wife still insists on using the strap, and that is OK with me. I carry this few hundred dollars of new door handle and latches with me as we travel, for when we may need it in the future.

The last thing that I do, is about every 6 months, I open up the door panel, and recheck all of the the "c" clamps, and look for unusual ware areas. Gives me something to do, and also peace of mind that we won't be locked out of the coach, or in, again... But,  do admit on this now 4th month of this trip, that he deadbolt part is getting harder to open. So, I think I'll be taking the panel off in the next few weeks, and checking for problems..

Have no idea if any of this helps you, but, figure I'd let you know that your not alone.

One final note. IMP, our door was 'tweaked' or damaged by the previous owner. It has always been a problem from day one of our ownership. The wind noise was terrible. I added weather proofing and it helped. But then also had OMC take a look at it. They 'finessed' to door (2" x 4" in, and a few hundred pounds of force pushing and pulling on different parts of the door.) They removed all of the weather proofing. It's 75% better, and only makes wind noise at a certain angle to the wind. So, my door may not be representative of other doors, due to what I feel was some kind of trauma in the past:)!

Best of luck to you,

Smitty

Did you try to open it with the toll window (or any window) opened slightly? The reason I ask is the cc is pretty air tight and the owners manual recommends that you leave a window or door open when extending and retracting the slides.

Just a guess.

Good luck.

We had the same problem with our '03 Intrigue and had the crew at Fountain RV take it apart. They found a weak spring in the latch mechanism, lubed the mech., and reinstalled 3 years ago. Working fine ever since. Good luck and safe travels.

When unable to open the door from the outside. Have a strong 6 foot deck fishing pole with a metal hook stored in storage bay, ready for this problem. At all times do not lock the Toll window. When there is a problem, get fishing pole out, slide the Toll window open, put the pole thru with a hook to unlatch the handle. When you make up this pole, test first.
