2005 Allure - Cat C9 engine / Allison MH3000 transmission
The coach now resides in the UK (across the pond!) and is therefore a very long way from dealers / shops in the US - we have an acute lack of RV familiar shops over here
Have recently had Allison UK (their agent in the south-west) and Finning (the CAT dealers on this side of the pond) attempt to communicate with their respective components
Allison attempted to communicate via the fly lead / Deutz plug / rectangular plug found beneath the dash and the plugs in the battery bay - without success
Finning attempted to communicate via the two Deutz plugs located in the battery bay - without success
Whilst there appear at present to be no major issues with either component - I am keen to establish communication in advance of the 'need' for diagnosis in the event of breakdown with either
Before I commit further time and money to these investigations - can anyone please advise on their experiences / resolutions / experiences
?? Is there something I am missing - is there a procedure for connection / communication that the technicians over here may not be aware of

Maybe they could call Caterpillar in the US and find out if an adaptor is needed?
We have a Cummins ISL and we lost the ECM - have no idea why. It may have gotten corrupted. Anyway Cummins "reflashed" it and it now communicates.

In addition we found that we have a key in the driver's area on the panel that if you turn it in the 'on' position you can communicate with the engine via the engine warning light flashes. You of course would need the list of flash codes and what they mean to do so. That is handy if you are on the hwy and need to communicate with a technician.

If it is your j-1939 wires. I had this problem and it took me a Cat dealer & two Allison dealers & finally getting it repaired at Country Coach. The problem is in the engine bay above the muffler. The wiring is a 70c deg. wire. The heat from the muffler causes the wiring to melt internally. This is a problem for all Inspires & other models. Remove the shielding and check for melting of the wiring right above the muffler. If you need any additional help please email me at mlgunn1@... (mlgunn1@...) and I will give you my phone num. Ian, one other thing. If I remember correctly the ohm's between the front and rear resistors is 135 ohm's,therefore you should be able to tell if there is an open circuit or not.

Update on recent transmission issues
The trouble was traced to a badly fitted terminal crimp on the end of a data cable (wires E793 and E794) behind the dash - this terminal metal crimp, obviously fitted at the factory, was causing E793 and E394 to 'short' across
The data cable appears to exist for an 'option / use' that our coach does not have in the dash area
Once the crimp was removed and the CAN wires separated - full communication across both components from both the front and rear reader ports - one very happy owner, one very chuffed technician
The transmission tech who came out established identical voltages on the 2 CAN wires on the Allison reader port indicating a direct 'short' somewhere on the data systems - because both data protocols are piggy backed at the rear reader ports both protocols were being affected - it was then a question of disconnecting each data plug in turn to 'remove' the shorting component / cable from the data communication
Once the 'offending' cable was unplugged and communication restored - it was then a question of 'tracing' the offending data cable from the plug to locate / solve the problem

Ian, The connector under the dash is used for monitoring hardware for the engine and transmission such as Silverleaf and I believe ScanGauge also.
I have the Silverleaf VMSpc and it is well worth the money. Barney07 Inspire 52059
