Has anyone had the plug blow out and what causes it

First check the center of the plug that the vent hole is not plugged. Sometimes it that simple . But This also can be caused by excessive heat build up on that axle, caused by over braking , bearing wear, low oil , ect.
How long has is been since you serviced your axle? Check bearing play, replace oil.

Mine does all the time and then pukes oil out on the tire - I just fish it out of the hub and pop it back in. I think I will try and ream out the vent hole a tiny bit and see if that solves the problem. I've been told its because of heat buildup in the hub when underway. I never really lose an appreciable amount of lube, its just annoying and messy. I had a Cessna 310 once that had teeny oil leak that caused one wing edge to always be coated with a thin film of engine oil. I ruined several pair of pants and finally fixed the problem by selling the plane.

In the center of the plug there is a very small hole that works as a vent to releaive pressure. Use a paper metal paper clip and clean the vent out and reinstall. I did this about 3 or 4 times while I had my Magna.
