Hello all,
We are going to be gutting and remodeling our stick build home this coming March. We will be living in our CC Allure in the barn for about 5-6 months. We currently have a TracStar dome satellite on the coach but want to get a portable 3 LNB dish so we do not have to have the coach out of the barn. Plus it would be nice to have a portable dish for when we are staying at heavily wooded RV parks. We have Directv.
Does any one have any suggestions?
How does the portable dish hookup to the receivers in the coach?
We have 2 receivers, is there a trick we need to know?
We have looked at the dome portables but we would rather go with a regular dish.
Thank you!
Marta

Hi Marta,
A dome dish won't get HD. Amazon has what you need. I think you can just click on the line below.
Amazon.com: Satellite Oasis Directv Hd Satellite Dish Rv Tripod Kit: Electronics (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005110PXA/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pd_nS_img?_encoding=UTF8&colid=1PT4SRCKEK7TC&coliid=INJ0UPAP6JI0F)

Marta,
I put together a portable directv dish on tripod recently as a supplement to the Winegard Traveler on the roof. I was able to get everything working and keep access to all options by using 2 A/B switches in the audio cabinet. I wanted to be able to bring in either the portable satellite dish or cable thru the outside connection at the back of the coach. That was the first A/B switch. Based on whether cable or satellite is connected in the back outside connection the A/B switch is placed in the appropriate position. The second A/B switch selects either the portable dish or permanent roof mounted dish. The 3 LNB dish will be SWM (single wire multiswitch) which means you will need to have the power supply and splitter for that dish somewhere in the coach. I placed them also upfront in the audio cabinet. The spitter will be used to split the portable satellite dish signal to get the signal to each directv receiver. The beauty of the SWM dish is that you only have a single coax running from the portable dish to the coach. I bought the A/B switches from Radio Shack. While they used to be easy to find, it is becoming more difficult.
I ended up having to sit down and draw it out to make sure I was accomplishing what I wanted. My only unknown was determining whether sending the power out the outside connection for the portable dish would be an issue with cable. Although I haven't yet been anywhere to connect it to cable I did attach an outside antenna and it worked fine.
You will have to select the appropriate satellite dish on your directv receiver when you switch from the portable to your TracStar - although I recently changed out the directv receiver in the coach and it has been automatically changing the antenna when it sets itself up.
May have been much more than you wanted to know... bottom line was that it worked - and without needing to run any new coax cable for the new portable.
Let me know is this results in more questions than answers,
Dan

We have a single LNB portable carry-out 1503 by Wingard that we have found to be very good .
