Hi Rich,
I believe you are looking for a Bendix 109493X. This is the rebuilt filter but it is as good as a new one.

The unit is a Bendix AD-IP but I don't have a number for it. (It's possible your 2002 uses a different drier.)

I think the air dryer cartridge on our 99 Magna was forward and above the passenger side rear axle. Not an easy place to get to unless your 12.

I don't believe the CAT and Cummings were the same. As I remember I crawled under and got the number off of the unit.
Don't forget the purge valve if has been a while since the desiccant filter was changed. There used to be a rebuild kit for the purge valve but I believe it was discontinued. Bendix tech support is very helpful and there are a number service pubs that you can download. Buy the parts from a distributor and take them to your service shop it will save you a lot of money. Plus you will not have to wait for them to order in the parts. There use to be a core charge for the remanufactured filter but the last time I changed it out they were not asking for the filter to be returned.

Our 2002 Affinity with C-12 CAT uses the Bendix Remanufactured AD-IP Air Dryer 109477X. It was $216.93 after return of the core at Pacific Truck Center and $220.00 to install at Peterson CAT, both in Eugene, OR.

We replaced our drier last summer on our 2000 C10 Magna. It is located in front and above the rear axle.I was fortunate that I had a pit to access it. After doing it I would not even attempt it without a pit. To get the drier out required disconnecting the some of the brake air lines, drier air lines, loosening a support band and a pair of mounting bolts. Then you need to snake it down and out.
It took several attempts to get the correct drier. We wanted to just replace it with a rebuilt drier assemble. When you examine the dryer assembly you will notice it has an extra air line that is not found on the rebuilt units. We were told that if the new/rebuilt drier does not have that extra line it will cause early failure of the compressor. The parts house (Esley Truck Accessories in Salem, OR) took the time to research the issue. To get the correct rebuilt drier assembly it would be a special order. There were only 3 on the shelf at the rebuild factory and it would take 3 days to get. The other option was to install a drier rebuild kit. Needless to say we bought a dryer rebuild kit and installed it.
Rebuilding the drier assembly ourselves was not that difficult.A big vise was handy because you can clamp the drier assembly to remove and install the dryer cartridge. Difficulty of rebuilding is a 2 or 3, you just need big tools. All parts (i.e., drier cartridge, purge valve and gaskets) were included in the kit. Since we dissembled the unit to replace the drier cartridge we were able to inspect the internals. We noted there was no moisture on the outlet of the drier; that would lead me to believe that the desiccant was not consumed.

Frank,
This is very useful. Thanks. Is you dryer a Bendix AD-P1 or some other model? You probably don't know the answer, but do you have reason to believe that later models of Magna had the extra air line? Do you have any idea why not just replace the cartridge and not rebuild the purge valve?
