Hi, just would like some info on install of samsung rf18 in our 2000 magna, we only have 2 8 d batties for house, how much noise do they make in the coach when running, and what about the heat from the unit. How long of run time can they run of the inverter be for need of shore power, and what is the amp draw when compresser is on, thanks Charles 5886 2k magna

charles, Just replaced my Dometic NDR 1492 with the Samsung RF18.

Several years ago I replaced my two 8d batteries with four 6 volt golf cart batteries with the same amp-hour capacity. So I have, assuming batteries are still at rated capacity, 220 amp hours of usable capacity. According to the the label on the Samsung, it has a maximum current draw of 1.2 amps. So at 12 volts this would be about 12 amps dc not counting any inefficiency in the inverter. This refrigerator has a compressor that does not shut off. When the compressor is not needed it idles down in speed so there is no start up current surge. I plugged the refrigerator into the ice maker receptacle and did not need to run an extra wire from the inverter circuit.

I have no idea of how many amp hours a day the refrigerator actually requires and I don't have enough experience to feel comfortable estimating battery usage. Assuming my batteries are near full charge at night, I should easily be able to run overnight. Perhaps others that have made the change can add better battery usage experience.

I don't notice any heat from the unit but I suppose there is some heat load put on the coach. I don't notice any noise, even standing next to the refrigerator. So far the loudest sound has been when the ice maker drops a load of ice into the storage bin.

The refrigerator runs on the MSW inverter in my coach so the engine alternator will charge your house batteries and you can keep the refrigerator running while on the road.

The only downside I can come up with after replacing the Dometic is the loss of the two drawers below the refrigerator. That's not a big loss for what I believe to be a much superior refrigerator.

I'm with Pete. The Samsung RF 18 creates no noticeable extra demand.
Hey Pete looking forward to seeing you at the CCI St. Louis Rally next month!

I had Kevin Waite & Bob Vinson install the 19 cu ft Samsung 2 yrs ago and couldn't be more happy with performance. They also installed 4 solar panels (560 watts) , Outback mppt solar controller,. Magnum pure sine wave inverter. 6 AGM 6 volt batts.
We have dry camped in Alaska and Canada for days. Battery voltage never below 12.2 volts. Used generator sparingly. 60 min day for heavy use items.
I'm not as technical as most folks on this board. But, I feel what I've got for power & storage is more than adequate. There are solar and battery businesses that can help you calc loads for your specific needs. Really don't think Samsung uses much juice.

My Samsung is super quiet, except when ice drops into tray.
It does produce some heat but not too much to effect coach temp balance.
removed plastic roof vent cover and made cover from sheet metal that basically closes the vent opening on roof. I left the side wall vent as is. Their seems to be plenty of air movement around the Refir inside the coach.
We mounted Refir high, leaving bottom drawers in place. We use small step stool to access top shelf space.
Only PITA is, can't open doors wide enough to change shelf configuration.
Minor.

As a 36 yr professional firefighter, I feel safer with the LPG Refir out...

Happy trails.

Just so you know, 12.2 volts is about a 60% charge.

Removed the passenger side windshield, old frig out, new frig in, about 1 hour total. They may have been able to bring it through one of the side windows but the valence and blinds would have to have been removed. Removing the windshield was less labor.

The RF18 is 70 3/4 inches tall and 32 1/8 inches wide. The width is about 3 inches less than the Dometic. I had the Samsung placed as far forward in the 'hole' as possible so that the door on the aft end if the hole would open as far as possible. By doing this the doors open just far enough to remove the refrigerator shelves.

If you go to Home Depot and look at the refrigerator, notice that there is a flat box on top and at the rear of the refrigerator. This box and the top of the hinges is the 70 3/4 inch measurement.

I suggest you go online to the Samsung website and download the manual for the refrigerator. http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/RF18HFENBSR/AA

Is this the only refer that can be used or are there others? What determines whether or not one can be used. I need to use a smaller refer because of space. Thank you. Barrie Boas, 94 Concept 5111
